  1. Only wear the shoe if it fits If I had thought ahead, I could have made up a roll tide example
  2. I didn't find this posted (and it's not new) but there are quite a few good ones on the list. The flea market is one of my favorites, I can remember as a student picking stupid checkpoints and when asked by my CFI to point them out from the air I couldn't find them... you might be a redneck pilot if... … your stall warning plays “Dixie.” … your cross-country flight plan uses flea markets as check points. … you think sectionals charts should show trailer parks. … you’ve ever used moonshine as avgas. … you have mud flaps on your wheel pants. … you think GPS stands for going perfectly straight. … your toothpick keeps poking your mike. … you constantly confuse Beechcraft with Beechnut. … just before impact, you are heard saying, “Hey y’all, watch this!” … you have a black airplane with a big #3 on the side. … you’ve ever just taxied around the airport drinking beer. … you use a Purina feed bag for a windsock. … you fuel your wizzbang 140 from a Mason jar. … you wouldn’t be caught dead flyin’ a Grumman “Yankee.” … you refer to flying in formation as “We got ourselves a convoy!” … there is a sign on the side of your aircraft advertising your septic tank service. … when you are the owner of Red Neck Airlines and pilot of Redneck One. … you subscribe to The Southern Aviator because of the soft paper! … you have ever incorporated sheetrock into the repair of your aircraft. … you have ever responded to ATC with the phrase “That’s a big 10-4!” … you typically answer female controllers with titles like “sugar” or “little darlin’.” … she responds with the words “Honey” or “Big guy” then she may be a redneck. … you have ever used a relief tube as a spitoon. … you glance down at your belt buckle to help you remember your N-number. … you have ever tried to impress your girlfriend by buzzing her doublewide. … the preprinted portion of your weight and balance sheet contains “Case of Bud.” … your go/no-go checklist includes the words “Skoal” or “Redman.”
  3. Ditto - except I have a 430. 650 installed schedule for Oct.
  4. All great advice, thank you
  5. I’m generally not a CB but feel like I should try to repair this before replacing. The Internet claims acrylic glue will do the job. What does mooneyspace say? And yes, that is our dining room table. Since it broke while someone was trying to get the sun off of their iPad so they could color instead of listening for handoffs and working the radio, I don’t feel bad about putting it on the table. I mean, it is on a placemat…
  6. Hi All, I know it's a little early but... I am dropping off my J at Sarasota's Tampa location for a GTN install during the weekend of the Mooney Summit. Does anyone have an open seat for me to return home? I'm based at KFGU/Chattanooga. Happy to contribute up to legal limits and if you have the time, lunch on me at Memphis St BBQ. Tim
  7. I just put in a second mount for the copilot side. Below is what I used. I love ram mount but the items below are just as good and a lot cheaper. I did have to put another strip of rubber inside the handlebar clamp to make it small enough to grip the yoke's shaft though.
  8. Same here. Works great and like Pinecone said, no blocked gauges
  9. @ToddCC22 - any idea if this would also fit in a J ?
  10. Luckily for me, my KAP 150 works perfectly but I do fear one day it simply won't. I talk to it often and with encouragement in the hopes I can buy time waiting for more cost-effective options to become available. There's no doubt the big G product is great, just don't want to sink that kind of money into my plane unless/until absolutely necessary.
  11. We used to have a mooniac at SRB. I looked at his plane, a M20K, when it was for sale. IIRC, he replaced it with a C310. @Entropy - I'm based at FGU, if no one jumps in, DM me late next week.
  12. I was interested in this topic as well so I looked up Lake Aero. Doesn’t look like they do avionics anymore based on their web page.
  13. I don't need one but I think your price is right. I had a 760 in my last plane and loved it. Post on vansairfoce if you haven't already.
  14. I had the exact same thought. Actually, mine was even harsher. I don't care if it's sun n fun or osh, if you are attracting enough people to create an unsafe environment than you are responsible/accountable/culpable and have lost your way when it comes to being an advocate for safety.
  15. I've had to work with the FAA on matters that were my fault and I have had the same experience. Professional, helpful and not out to get anyone. If you are argumentative with them then I imagine they will be like that with you. This was recently on my mind because I attended the "Quarter Turn Fasteners and Aircraft Accidents - No Way!" webinar this past Wednesday and there was as short discussion from an FAA inspector on whether they should "cheerlead" safety programs or be "enforcers and auditors". In case you're thinking that's a stupid webinar, I had my doubts, but it wasn't at all. It was very enlightening and informative.
  16. I am local and a lot of us know Craig or in my case, know of him. I think he is well intentioned and wants to help the community, he sold his previous business and it seems everything he is doing now is aviation related. Along with the publications, he is also building a fly-in community in middle Tennessee. We had a local private airport in which the owner decided he wanted to sell to a land developer. He kicked everyone out of their hangars and closed the airport to public use. Due to some land lease issues the sale was halted in the courts. The airport stayed closed to the public. At a recent pilots meeting, I heard Flying (or maybe Craig himself) has bought the airport with the intention of having their offices there and reopening it for GA. Not all of the above is first hand knowledge but that's what I hear amongst us gossipy pilots.
  17. Found my own answer after a second search. 90 degree on the nosewheel Straight on the mains. I'll leave this thread here for the next person who needs this.
  18. I saw a Cirrus getting towed off the runway last weekend and it reminded me that I haven't bought any spare tubes for my new to me J model. I checked the parts catalog but couldn't find the tubes. If someone could be so kind to save me a trip to the airport I'd appreciate it. I'm 99% certain the nose wheel has a 90 degree stem, what about the mains? Thx! Tim
  19. That is very good advice - you get what you pay for, don't buy the cheapest unless you know what you are getting into.
  20. I agree with Hank. I've been a USAA member since before my hair was gray and trust me that's a long time. They are nothing even remotely close to what they used to be. I'd even go as far to say Hank is being generous by rating them above average. In my opinion, over about the last 10 years they have turned into just another bank/insurance company.
  21. no meows on 121.5? Now I'm questioning the whole story
  22. Yep, saw them all the way from Cape May
  23. @jamesm - shouldn’t that clamp have a black rubbery sleeve? I have about 10 hours till my next oil change and will definitely put my eyes on my clamp. Appreciate the photo.
  24. I was thinking the same but can’t find it in the parts catalog
