  1. I'll be there in an RV. :-( Wife does *not* want to camp the first time.
  2. Part of the reason I've stuck with where I work is their policy on me flying, which is "wow that's cool!" and I always get asked, "Did you fly here?" They're in UT and I'm in AZ, so not a super long flight. I used to have 5 coworkers here with me in AZ. Sadly I can't take any of them with me. That'd be super fun. When we had lay-offs, some of them explicitly told me where they went and if they allowed personal travel.
  3. Did you tell them you're reputable and audited in accordance with the FAA?

  6. Not to derail too much, but I'm pretty ready for some 240 trips (IFR, O2D2, oxygen, oximeter, masks, mission). What backups would you suggest for oxygen? We have a 79 231 and we strap a tank to the back of a seat. Would you do a whole other tank, or something like those boost cans? Edit: Wondering if getting this as a backup and just being able to switch the O2D2 to it would be better. I'd be able to keep the mask on and coordinate with ATC.
  7. Last annual is 1989. Wow.
  8. The fuel diverter is actually still in the plane. :-| I asked the shop to cease any extra work that's not required and I can hopefully do it with a fellow mooneyspace member (who's also given me the appropriate amount of grief for it not being done) when I'm in the mid-west this summer. And James was fantastic. As a new-ish plane owner, and curious about the mechanics of it all, I always love mechanics that take pride in explaining their work. He took texts, emails, and calls. He text'd me a few days ago asking if I was at TBO yet. Good dude.
  9. Here's the returned engine, installed. You'll notice that apparently the previous owners didn't comply with SB CSB19-01A, and James installed the old parts. If you have the old primer system, it might be a good time to get that fixed. Also James painted the oil cap. He said he's done this on hundreds of engines. He sandblasted and painted over "OIL 8 QTS" which is illegal, so we had to put a little label on it. Would be nicer if it said it on the paint, and was painted yellow.
  10. I used Watson Aero. James is fantastic at communication. Some stuff to note that I learned from my overhaul: If you can, fly your plane to him. I couldn't do that, it was a 'forced overhaul', let's call it. Holy crap, some mechanics don't like other mechanics. James is not one of them. He made mistakes and was willing to rectify all of them but the mechanic that had the plane didn't want to talk to him. Pretty much all of the below issues are due to that Mechanic in Chandler didn't send the turbo since he mis-read, so he had to send it to Main Turbo. Main is 6-8 months backed up on parts, so see what James could do about that. Luckily my turbo was overhauled by them 200 hours ago so they knew it'd be light and did it in a day. When the engine got back to AZ, even though my mechanic here seemed very aggressive towards Watson, he said it was very very well tested, and most of the configurations for RPMs were very small tweaks, and was the best he'd ever seen. It took 7 months from uninstall, ship, overhaul, ship, install, fly.
  11. Glad they're ok! So since the engine is busted, and the plane is unharmed, doesn't this fall under wear and tear and not covered by insurance?
  12. I got this guy to help: https://a.co/d/2jXXDMF I use Extreme Simple Green on the underbelly (from a diluted spray bottle), then spray the entire plane with an Optimum No Rinse (ONR) Wash/Shine mix that I stored in that large sprayer. I'll spray a panel with some Bead Maker, then lightly scrub with a sponge from a bucket that also has ONR. I wipe it all off with a huge 36"x30" plush rag (two, actually) as I go. I do a few panels at a time. Seems to be working out well for me the one time I did it. Didn't need a wash rack or anything. If the plane is absolutely crusted up with dirt or debris, you do probably want to just hose it off first. Last note is I tend to use distilled water for everything I can. It just means that if it starts to dry before you're done, there's less gunk on the plane as it happens. It's AZ and if I'm doing it in the summer, even at night, it'll start to dry pretty fast.
  13. What's the minimum oil your POH says you can fly with? Seems like you're putting in a lot of oil, maybe too much. A quick search says that engine can go as low as 4qts, which seems scary. If it dipped below 5, I'd be curious. I have a completely different plane and engine but I know the max oil is 8. If I put 8 in, it's gone pretty quick. If I put 6.5 in, I notice it hovers there until the next oil change.
  14. I haven't done an XC like that in maybe a year. Super jealous. At the same time, we're very lucky to be able to do these kids of things. Every time I'm on a flight, I reflect a bit on it.
  15. Pictures maybe? Hopefully I can do the same in my K..
  16. Now I'm getting paranoid. I wonder if it's worth installing a forward facing dashcam or something. Would just hate for it to kill the battery if I was gone for a while.
  17. That's more flush than mine, by a hair.
  18. How much does your latch stick out? Mine probably isn't totally flat, it sticks up maybe 1/16th of an inch. Do.. I have.. a bad "safety clip", I worry? :-|
  19. Isn't there some video of someone's baggage door coming undone and wrapping around the elevator? I think it was a J or K model? Did the pilot do something wrong, or was it the door coming undone? I lock mine since it scares the sh** out of me to have that happen. Edit: Looks like there was something mechanically wrong with the door.
  20. That’s so messed up. And creative. Cats both hypoxic and hyperoxic at the same time! Or dead.
  21. Yeah I can’t really find any options. Especially any that won’t make him go absolutely apes***.
  22. So if I got a constant flow system and this box to route a cannula to.. https://a.co/d/2fe2W5R Is it animal cruelty to make it up to the levels?..
  23. It's AZ. One leg was out of Tucson (RYN). Probably 4000 density altitude (edit: this is not right, I forgot Tucson is lower than Phx, probably 2000?), 350lb total in the seats, half tanks. Still well off before the markers.
  24. Of all the things I want in my 1979K, split folding seats are pretty high up there. Wish there was a way to do it that wouldn't break the bank. We seldom use them for people but could use them for more storage. And for the C, a friend on here has one. We went flying recently and he was off well before the 1000ft markers each time, whereas I'm off just after them. It was amazing and I was jealous.
