  1. Going with my wife and father-in-law who's a bit too old to camp in a tent. So we'll be renting an RV. Luckily I think I get to see my own airplane fly in, as I've borrowed it out! Arriving Sunday, departing Thursday morning
  2. There was a very long thread about my incident that I participated in, and it got deleted for some reason. Wonder how much that happens.
  3. How can he still even have a license after all these issues? Isn't there some point where they suspend it to investigate?
  4. Bummer. Maybe I should have asked first. Oh well, fun side-project. Time to turn off the Prusa for another 8 months.
  5. @redbaron1982 hope you don't mind me posting here. After our chat, I wanted to mess with some ideas as well. I've ordered some more proper Klixon switches from @AH-1 Cobra Pilot but wanted to goof around with my own printer I never use. I wanted to inset the text so it's easier to see and can be filled in, instead of some raised text I found on an online model. Notes: These aren't smooth at all They're PETG so they're not going to last forever I tried glow in the dark and my childhood deceived me, I thought they'd glow easier than they do, but it takes a lot of light to make that happen. Thought it'd be neat to have red MASTER glow, and fill in the text with black paint after sanding. Probably won't be doing that. I'm not selling anything since I wouldn't even buy these myself, just thought it might be fun to research together a bit.
  6. Yeah there's definitely not enough information in the article. We've all been pushed out on downwind by traffic doing straight-ins, getting cut off, someone doing an approach, or we were too fast and need to bleed off some speed, etc. Plenty of reasons to deviate from the norm just a bit. It's possible he just had an extended downwind for no reason, but who knows just yet.

Edit to add: Pilot survived, walked/swam away.
  8. I'm sure your friends in the NBA thought just that. My buddy sat in my K and fit just perfect. Both him and his wife. 5'7 and 5'6.
  9. @slowflyin for kicks.. maybe do what I did to test. Click the disconnect button a zillion times and see if it automatically starts to work again. I think my mechanic and I had to click it like 20 times and then it re-connected. That's how we decided it was the disconnect.
  10. There's been a few threads about this on here, I think. I have the 200 so not quite the same. We had to replace the AP disconnect button and while we were removing the switch, we saw that the wires were never correctly soldered on, so they would lose connection and that's what would turn it off from time to time.
  11. Every sentence on here has taught me something.
  12. I.. always just thought that was an issue with my plane. This is common? So happy to know. @jlunseth when you had the "high speed taxi" alternator, how did you keep to an acceptable taxi? I tend to just tap the brakes periodically, and occasionally accidentally ride them.
  13. I disagree. I’ve got a K, I’m 6’1” and can have people behind me. Seats one notch from full forward.
  14. I've got a 231. I'll have him sit in it and see but I was trying to see where that possible threshold is of too short.
  15. Hate making a topic for something so trivial but I did search and couldn't find. I've got a friend interested in going the Mooney route. He's interested in mid-body Mooneys. I'm 6'1" and can reach the rudders just fine, though even I still have to have the seat adjusted pretty far forward. My wife is 5'4.5" (she makes sure to point that .5" out) and can't really touch the rudder pedals at all. Any pilots taller than 5'4.5" and shorter than 6' for mid/long-bodied mooneys care to chime in on if they're able to reach them safely? I think my friend is 5'7".
  16. Agreed with your last sentence, but doesn't that mean none of this is worth anything? If I know all the answers to all the questions leads to no, I don't really ask. It just creates dialogue that only exists to irritate either party.
  17. I'll be there in an RV. :-( Wife does *not* want to camp the first time.
  18. Part of the reason I've stuck with where I work is their policy on me flying, which is "wow that's cool!" and I always get asked, "Did you fly here?" They're in UT and I'm in AZ, so not a super long flight. I used to have 5 coworkers here with me in AZ. Sadly I can't take any of them with me. That'd be super fun. When we had lay-offs, some of them explicitly told me where they went and if they allowed personal travel.
  19. Did you tell them you're reputable and audited in accordance with the FAA?

  22. Not to derail too much, but I'm pretty ready for some 240 trips (IFR, O2D2, oxygen, oximeter, masks, mission). What backups would you suggest for oxygen? We have a 79 231 and we strap a tank to the back of a seat. Would you do a whole other tank, or something like those boost cans? Edit: Wondering if getting this as a backup and just being able to switch the O2D2 to it would be better. I'd be able to keep the mask on and coordinate with ATC.
  23. Last annual is 1989. Wow.
  24. The fuel diverter is actually still in the plane. :-| I asked the shop to cease any extra work that's not required and I can hopefully do it with a fellow mooneyspace member (who's also given me the appropriate amount of grief for it not being done) when I'm in the mid-west this summer. And James was fantastic. As a new-ish plane owner, and curious about the mechanics of it all, I always love mechanics that take pride in explaining their work. He took texts, emails, and calls. He text'd me a few days ago asking if I was at TBO yet. Good dude.
