  1. @meddesign love it and want to print one. Thanks for the effort! Looks like the first link needs a paid/trial account and second requires to pay to see the replies (and attachments). Any chance you're willing to put it on printables or thingiverse? Or email it to me and I can do it for you.
  2. Holy cow it takes up the entire baggage area for what sounds like just ground operations. I'd have to look for one that's half that size. Edit: appreciate the review so far!
  3. I'm sure PETG would work well, at least? Less flexible and more strong. I definitely don't have the supplies to print ABS.
  4. I've got SV on a g500 and love it. Especially at night. I've had to fly around the city a few times where there's dark patches, which usually means mountains. Obviously I've studied the charts, but having SV there to reassure me is amazing.
  5. Yes it's overkill. That said, my second GPS has functionality I'd need anyways, so it's a good safety of mind. The 355 (which I have) has Connext, to push and pull information. It's also got a comm, which I'd have needed anyways. Mechanic sent me a picture of the work in progress so you can see the 650 and 355. Note on the non-ideal headset jacks: The headset jacks there are temporary until the EDM gets upgraded to a 900. They can't go by my knee since I'm pretty tall and bump that area, so I'll just have them extended and zipped to the bottom of the panel, routing to the pilot side and out of the way. There was apparently not a single inch on the panel that was free to use. He video-called me to prove it to me.
  6. Right. I figure the 355 has GPS, so that's two GPS units. If I'm IFR and the 650 fails, I'd just try to get VFR or land asap with the 355 for a GPS airport. I'll always keep that in mind while planning.
  7. I have a terrible mindset of "screw it I'm already dropping $ for all of this, what's a little bit more to free up the panel?..." It in fact, did not free up the panel. Headset jacks were above our heads which I hated. So, moved them to the empty slot until I get the vac system removed, and replace instruments with a 275.
  8. Not who you asked, but since you're discussing a similar setup, I'll mention mine: I ended up going from two 430's to a 650xi and a 355. Two GPS's, two radios, one nav. I've got a 345R connected to the 650xi to free up some panel space.
  9. To clarify (I learned this in my panel which is currently upgrading) the GNX is the one that crossfills as it comes with connext. The 650 doesn't have connext, but can accept it from the GNX. And that functionality just got put in to the 650 recently.
  10. Learn all about potato filming here.
  11. https://youtu.be/Atzvu5dFEQ4 Short flight flying around the Phoenix area filmed last year. Weather progressed worse than expected, but we got to take a look at a haboob from up on high. Looks a lot smaller from the air. Edit: just uploaded so HD and 4K are still processing. It was not filmed with a potato. Edit: yeah rough landing.
  12. Wrecking my backyard now. Ain't even mad, could use the rain that follows.
  13. Not the friendliest GA airport, but it's so close to my house and I'm already tied down there. Anyone know of any t-hangars I could rent, or shared larger hangars that I'd be able to partner with? Seems *impossible* to get anything there.
  14. Mechanics have it worse than pilots, I'm sure. I personally do my best to not stretch scope, get estimates beforehand, relax on timelines, not pester too much, etc. I didn't get an estimate on this work beforehand but I did ask 3-4 times if he had an estimate once he opened the panel and he never responded.
  15. @EricJ I just left a bad review on google, told any of my local friends about it, and that's about all I'll do. I also told Savvy which got them blacklisted. Sent pictures and all. Guess that's about the norm, sounds like.
  16. Alright fair enough.
  17. I think all of those are dramatically different. A bad plumber, I'd leave a bad review. A bad doctor or lawyer, those are much more grave. Aviation is different, as it's community-centric and none of the above are. There are absolutely different aspects. I didn't know if people stay hush about bad mechanics (which it seems like it), or if they get a bit more loud about it, or what.
  18. One used 430w "traded" for labor (which isn't what I had expected, I expected to get billed, and sell one to the mechanic, not some sketch deal). Sold the other. I bought the other two units new elsewhere, gave them to the shop in the boxes they came in. They came with warranties, but the devices are fine, no need to use the warranties.
  19. This is kind of what I wanted from it. These aren't huge cockpits.. That's kind of a bummer. I've flown in 115f in AZ and it sucks. iPad overheats on runup, sweat dripping down my face constantly, and I feel myself rushing all aspects to just get up to altitude at times. I was hoping this would cool it a few degrees. Significantly. Maybe this with the static shades I've seen people use. I've got a roll of that sitting in my garage.
  20. @A64Pilot @1980Mooney I humbly disagree. If it says yeti, I know it's going to last longer than most other brands. Both the cold/warm aspect of what's being held, and the product. Now, is that worth 3x (or some times 7x) the price of the competitor? Hell no, brother. Give me that cheap one and give me some gas for the same amount.
  21. It's $1595 online. Think of the bkool, but 3x the price. Looks better though (ok fine it lasts longer too). $1595 is a lot of 100LL, my friend. https://www.icybreeze.com/buy-icybreeze-v2-pro/
  22. A "quick job" of swapping out two 430w's with a 650xi and 355.
  23. Absolutely true and I learned my lesson. There were a lot of red flags I won't ignore again. The initial deal was to take a 430 as part of the payment, and bill for the rest. I should have asked for the full bill, and they can buy it off of me outside of that. I knew I was f'd when they barely wanted to talk to me afterwards, and asked for no additional payment. Meaning there's no billed work done.
  24. Yep, the annual shop was great. Where did you move to?
  25. Last update: Annual came in with an overhaul on the wastegate, and re-rigging the landing gear that had the front door open 2.5". I've only done one flight since the annual since the previous mechanic messed up the avionics so bad, but it climbed a heck of a lot faster than it used to.
