  1. Thanks. I've been trying to work on my interior in stages this time one seating position at a time (plastic side panels and window trim). Was hoping to be able to take the seats out without removing the side panels again. One of these days I'll go big again and take it all out.
  2. Appreciate the link to M20-62. The only *slight* movement I've ever felt was para. C when force Fc is applied. My plane is opened up for annual now. I'll take another look. Thanks.
  3. Any idea what the spec is on allowed movement? There used to be a recommended spec. I wiggle mine (pull up on the tail cone) every time I pre-flight. No change that I can feel over the last 15 years.
  4. A little off topic, but I've had my back seats out once during an interior refurb 15 years ago. I can't remember how they are removed. Does anyone know if you can take them out without removing the rear interior side panels? I remember the rod across the front but don't remember how the seat backs come out. Thanks. BTW, I've never had four in mine either.
  5. I bought the plastic overlays from Plane Plastics for my '67F. They take a lot of fitting, shaping and drilling but they look fine. See pic. Since the pic I've installed all the correct placards.
  6. I've noticed that several folks may need an airspeed safety switch and they've been waiting for some time to get a part from Mooney. According to World Magnetics (they appear to have bought out VEP Products), VEP has made two airspeed switches for Mooney. If the World Magnetics P/N or VEP P/N and specs can be mapped to the Mooney P/Ns, the switches are available new. One runs $1398 and the other $1500. There's a three week lead time. I originally had a Dukes switch in my airplane and it was replaced with a VEP switch years ago. Bottom line, if you need a switch, they appear to be physically available. Someone with proper experience just needs to make sure the paper trail is appropriate for aircraft installation. That's an area where I have no experience. I'm not a mechanic or a parts supplier. Just a guy that's pulled the thread on airspeed switch availability with the OEM. I had to troubleshoot mine this week during annual inspection.
  7. Does anyone have the Mooney P/N or VEP P/N for the M20J switch ? My F manual doesn't show an airspeed switch. Very similar low pressure airspeed switches are still available through VEP for about $1500 but I have no idea if the Mooney specific configuration is available yet. In conversation with the manufacturer. I suspect a batch could be easily ordered if complete specs were available. Be advised, I am not a mechanic and I am not an aircraft parts supplier and I'm not associated with an MSC. Just an engineer and Mooney owner that finds these switches interesting and critical enough to dig into the specs.
  8. I'm waiting on a response too. He must be busy.
  9. For what it's worth, during my annual this week, we discovered that my airspeed safety switch was INOP. The gear would come up without any air on the pitot tube. Bench testing with an ohm meter showed that it was sticking. We were able to remove the big slotted adjusting screw on the back, remove the spring, squirt a little mouse milk in the switch and get it working. Reinstalled it, readjusted the airspeed trigger point and it's seems to be working fine. Might be worth a try if you're stuck without new parts.
  10. LPS-2 seems to be the dominate choice in my neck of the woods. LPS-2 vs. Triflow? Grease seems like a good choice too but it does seem to harden and cake with grime. I spent an hour yesterday getting hardened grease and grime off of the U joint associated with the trim system before it could be lubed.
  11. How were they converted? By Lycoming somehow? Thanks.
  12. Curious. What's the newest J production years that you could ever expect to find with two mags (not the D mag)? Do they J's (MSE) produced in the early '90s have two independent mags? Thanks.
  13. I purchased a new one years ago from VEP Pressure Switches (Value Engineered Products). I still have the brochure in the files if anyone needs it. Works great.
  14. Guessing you've sold all of these by now? Thanks.
  15. Any chance you have the gauge cluster? 660119 ? Would like to have a spare that can be overhauled. Thanks.
  16. This is a bit philosophical, but I've noticed several people comment on corrosion associated with Mooney's. It's certainly a real concern and you have to maintain your airplane with your eyes wide open. However, the Mooney air frame, still after all these years, seems to have a great track record. I completed SB208 years ago on my plane and found no issues. I also replaced a flap hinge due to corrosion in predicted areas during repaint but it wasn't a show stopper by any means. Are Mooney's really any more vulnerable or corrosion prone than Cessna, Piper, Beach or Commander? It seems like all of those airplanes have had relatively major air frame ADs or corrosion concerns. Also, is there a summary or list of corrosion related inspection areas? Anything other than SB208? I'm in annual now and I've looked in every hole I can find with a mirror. I see nothing concerning but don't know exactly where I should be looking. I'd like to do this myself along with the mechanic. Thanks.
  17. Thanks. Seems like I remember the wires to the outboard fuel sender being accessible from the inspection plates on the bottom of the wing. It's been a while though.
  18. Hello again. I'm in the middle of an annual on my '67F. The left fuel gauge pegs full against the stop intermittently. Sometimes it works normally; sometimes it doesn't. It's pegged now while sitting on the jacks in the hangar so I have an opportunity to chase the problem. The tank is half full. When I shut off the master, the left gauge doesn't drop back to empty unless you tap on the meter. The right gauge slowly drops back to about empty on its own. It feels like I may have more than one problem. First I'm wondering if there may be a bad wire or ground wire on the outboard sender since it's pegging but sometimes working? Or is it more likely the outboard sender? I could also send in the gauge assembly for service and calibration but I don't want to just search for the problem randomly. Has anyone experienced this type of failure? Any idea on root cause? Appreciate your time. Thanks.
  19. Pulled up the EDM installation manual. It looks like the device in question, is a pressure sensor (not a switch) that feeds the EDM. I may delete my original post to avoid any future confusion. Will discuss with mechanic tomorrow.
  20. Appreciate the insight. I need to dredge through the log books. As you know, it's a chore though after so many years. They are no longer a book; they are a box of books and files. :> Might be able to determine if it actually does anything with a little troubleshooting too. Thanks.
  21. My '67F's engine was overhauled 3-4 years ago (IO-360 A1A). An EDM-730 was installed. Many years before that, the airplane had a Hobbs meter installed in addition to the original tachometer. The Hobbs meter was removed long ago. Today, during annual inspection, I noticed a small oil leak. It appears to be coming from a T in an oil line between the engine and firewall. The T supports an oil pressure switch or sensor. I'm trying to figure out if the oil pressure switch or sensor is left over from the old Hobbs meter installation, or it it supports current equipment. Does anyone know if an oil pressure switch is needed for any function other than possibly a Hobbs meter? I'm assuming the EDM logs time based on a oil pressure trigger point. Thoughts appreciated; if possible, I'd like to remove the device and the T and replace the line to minimizes potential sources of leaks and failure. Thanks.
  22. There was a pneumatic version of a panel mounted cut out valve too. Jerry Walters told me what system it was derived from but I don't remember. See pic just above the right knob on the audio panel. I use it often. Jerry installed the one on my plane.
  23. That's exactly the kind of plane I would look for. A NDH airframe with a clean panel and a run out engine needing overhaul. Fly it home and send it straight to the engine overhaul shop. If you see any good J's airframes at a good price, please let folks know.
  24. KCRQ. M20F (with SWTA mods).
  25. Wondering if Premier sold their J. It's no longer on Controller but still on their web site. Looks like Air Mods, Premier, and Oracle may have all sold a J recently. Good J's are moving!
