  1. I didn't plan this out I just kept pulling panels so I will probably be stuck with just the yoke and glare shield a the moment. I found the matching ultra leather which will allow me to do the baggage compartment and kick panels. I will ask Hector if he can do the headliner when I get the other parts out. Should be able to fly with the headliner removed. I should have just left everything in place. No call from Avionics yet so I guess they figured everything out.
  2. As I continue my foray into interior renovation, I have not found replacement plane plastics. Are the front plastics the same in the 1990K and M? Might go the AeroComfort interior (planning yoke and glare shield) in the future but initially prep/paint is the plan but if I break something I need to have a source to fix it. Found some u-channel and matching color screws through Jaeger. Also have some old wool-like covering on the kick panels, might try to recover in leather. Could be exciting if I can match it.
  3. I will remove the yellow foam but who knows what lies underneath. Saw one other post touting 1/2" Ensolite. As far as this plane, looks like it is pretty clean inside, didn't see corrosion. Tomorrow I will get back out to measure and then figure out what material to use. The local MSC didn't have a part number for the Mooney product (since it is a kit) so I gave them the SB so they could maybe track down the part number. One thing I did notice is that all of the headliner lightbulbs were missing. I wonder if they got left on too many times or maybe they didn't work. Did find that it was a delicate balancing act to get the last piece of the headliner out with out breaking anything. Disconnecting hoses and O2 lines, took the opportunity to empty the cylinder as it is out of date (shh). Noticed two of the eyeball vents weren't even connected. Work to be done. Ordered SEM Marine Vinyl paint in light gray, think it will be a nice change from the orangish-yellow color that the plastic parts became over time.
  4. Reviving this thread with a couple of questions. I think I have read all of the insulation threads but nobody seems to talk about what fits where. 3/8 or 1/2" foam. Looks like foam mart in Burbank might have the better deal but also contacted the local MSC to see if they have the Mooney mylar-backed foam on the shelf. Plus the usual Aircraft Spruce links abound. To give an idea of the idiot-level project I started and now need to finish (interior removal gone insane) within the next few weeks while avionics surgery is happening...so I pulled out all the fiberglass insulation and what is left is the yellow foam in the roof. Thinking 1/2" all around but open to suggestions to keep the plane warm and quiet. Thanks in advance.
  5. I was having trouble removing some bolts today and drilled them out. They were in the tail avionics tray with clearance between the tray and skin, still nerve wracking.
  6. We did spray some anti-seize on our pins during the prebuy. Might need to do it again, the plane sat on the ramp in FL for a year and flew around 7 hours. Good list of other items to check, thanks guys.
  7. Felt as though my brakes were rubbing/grabbing. I am unsure what normal is, this is the only Mooney I have ever flown from the left seat, or touched the brakes for that matter. Left brake also seems to get mushy after flying, then tightens up after one pump. Still not getting a lot of grip and so just letting the plane roll out to slow down. While the plane is in for avionics I might service the brakes.
  8. That is always the rub is the backlog same thing happened to us, call up to the shops at Metro, you might get lucky.
  9. I’m with the “go with what you know” crowd. Had 2650 TTSMO (and 24 years) on the engine, flew my family in that plane at night. Take care of it and it will take care of you. Sold the plane, nearly a year later it is still flying with the same engine, it even though he planned to re-do the engine this past winter.
  10. Colorado got covered but I guess the snow doesn’t like to stick to the laminar flow wings! Think we are both ready to head back to Florida. All cleaned off today some more landings. Not impossible to land well, but takes a lot more finesse than my old R182. Thursday in for avionics upgrades very similar to @Fly_M20R some LEDs from @OSUAV8TER
  11. I see I am missing revisions: E, F, G, H. I contacted Mooney as the new owner and asked for any revisions as I had A-D wrinkled and stuffed in the logbook bag. Thanks.
  12. Doing some surgery in the next week or so, if they open the airports in Colorado. This inspires me to save parts to help MSers. I will be installing the Garmin EIS so that will come with all new parts, hopefully.
  13. Not if the owner is a CFI. Of course then we get into insurance issues if the OP bends something. You probably wouldn't be allowed to land the plane, our gone (but not forgotten) R182 was a lot more forgiving to more exciting landings.. However, TN is a long way away. You might consider hopping on a plane to get closer to a willing candidate.
  14. Made it all the way to Colorado where she can dry out in the dry Colorado air!
  15. Picked up a Bravo and finally started the meandering road back home. Broker snapped some shots as we were leaving. Great folks at Southwind at KFMY.
  16. Doubtful this is your problem but I had a pinched wire once. Replaced the probe and got the same fault, somewhat intermittently. The wire from the JPI that connects to the probe was pinched by the cowl (not a Mooney) coming out of the firewall. Splice the wire and wrapped it with that plastic protective stuff and it was good as new.
  17. I understand how things slip or fall through. The pre-buy was the most difficult part of selling my last plane. The buyer flew his uncle in for a two hour pre-buy and flight. It was the best possible outcome. I would bring a mechanic from here if I could.
  18. A 1990 Bravo. Switlik was great when I talked to him, knew the plane, just sounded super busy, thus I was just looking at other options to move up or firm up the timeline. Also flying out my buddy, also a Bravo owner for some Training on the way back. I don’t mind complicated plans but my better half’s tolerance for a solo mini vacation in sunny and warm FL will be short lived if it snows while I am gone.
  19. Sent a note to PJ. I don’t know that I can get the plane moved and I don’t know if he travels but I will know soon. So crabby some roving bands of lightly employed A&Ps over on the West Coast of Florida. However it seems that everybody is super busy these days. Obviously one big concern is how things always seem to shift to the right. That happened with my previous plane you get something scheduled and then it would shift a week. Keep the suggestions coming please you guys are awesome.
  20. Penciled in with Switlik on KMYF. They sounded really busy.
  21. Hey everybody. I am trying to find an AP/IA to conduct a pre-buy at Fort Myers. I have one scheduled but it is "penciled in" subject to re-confirmation for 2 March with a closing on 5 March. I am flying in from Denver to retrieve the plane after the pre-buy and was hoping to get a firm date commitment (I'm pretty flexible) so I can book tickets and hotels and such. I have reviewed the logs already and can e-mail them. PM for contact info.
  22. Prospective owner of a 1990 M20M. Been lurking for a few days till I found the confidence to sign a purchase agreement. Spent some time in my buddy's Bravo. Now looking for a pre-buy. Thanks.
