  1. Sorry for the stupid question but what is the 'panel dimmer'?
  2. Get an IFR rating first. Then if you plan a lot of fast cross country flying with more than 2 people on board it is a simple choice. Ovation 3.
  3. The company is based at KAWO and that's where I hangar my Mooney. Range and payload will be an issue for a long time. I'd be surprised if they can get more than 200NM on average in the real world. There is a LOT of R&D going into battery technology these days and all the systems and software around them now. The advantages are clear to all of us and the public around noise polluted and populated areas/airports.
  4. Today in Washington State: https://www.geekwire.com/2022/eviation-all-electric-alice-airplane-first-flight-test/
  5. I have watched ALL of your videos multiple times on YouTube. THANK YOU! POST MORE!! Landing practice tip from me: If I don't have at least 15 pounds of weight in the baggage compartment and I am flying by myself I run out of trim in my Ovation. Thoughts?
  6. Not at all. I am just trying to do my homework and learn about the differences to make an educated decision. Since the Aero Lites are half the price of the Whelen and I haven't seen a specs comparison yet I think it is fair to ask no? If you have it pls share of course.
  7. Well the new Aero Lites are half the price and they seem to have similar specs. They don't have an STC but... According to Avweb no PMA or STC is needed. Correct? https://www.avweb.com/insider/how-the-faa-works-against-safety/ "All of the manufacturers of these products have approached the FAA for some kind of approval, even though it’s not clear that any is needed. The FARs are vague on the subject, requiring only that bulbs have enough light for night operations and not present a fire hazard. That’s it. The venerable GE 4509 bulb-the gold standard for landing lights-carries no TSO or PMA of any kind. It’s just a bulb."
  8. Thank you are these comparisons vs the Aero Lites 3200 lumens or the 5100's?
  9. Has anyone installed the Aero Lites UltraX PAR36 5100 Lumens? If so are you happy with them?
  10. How do they compare with Aero Lites which are selling at $155 each? https://www.aero-lites.com/product-page/ultra-x-flood
  11. Has anyone tried Aero Lites, Aeroleds vs Whelen on a Mooney Ovation?
  12. Hi Paul, The file is a ".ace" created with the Garmin Checklist editor 2.30. Does the actual name matter? I tried saving it with multiple different names like: Ovation3_M20R.ace I think but the system doesn't seem to find it and upload it (saved on top MFD card). My G1000 version 0401.34 Thanks for your help!
  13. Everything works great on mine most of times... From time to time it doesn't. I religiously follow the steps by step Fly Garmin for Windows software update procedure and update only the two (top and bottom) MFD cards in the sequence prescribed. The DB's (I select update only) load on the two SD cards no problem. I never removed the bottom PFD card. When in the airplane. Master switch off. I insert both SD cards in the MFD. When I turn on I follow the instructions on the PFD and MFD to update to the new DB cycle. From time to time terrain DB doesn't seem to load correctly. I get an error message and also a small (one inch square or so) red on black X on the side of the altitude tape on the PFD as well. This is not what I see the G1000 handbook. SVS in this case also doesn't load. What I do then is I switch master switch off and wait a few seconds before turning on again. At this point most of the times everything loads correctly and works. The second and minor problem that I have is that I have NEVER been able to get the MFD to read the checklist file on the top card. I must be doing something wrong for sure. Any suggestion to fix/improve? Thanks!!
  14. I use this contraption and it works beautifully: http://www.formafunnel.com/ Me too. I can shape it in a way that collects most if not all.
  15. Done thank you!
  16. I already have WAAS so that's not a benefit to me. I still have to do the math but it's at least a $6k to $8k investment net after trading in/re-selling the GTX33 installed. For now I think that I will upgrade my iPad and get ADSB and weather on that one. That's a $1k investment max. Not integrated but also good for redundancy.
  17. I need to check but in my config. I have ADSB out and I have a 33 series transponder. I do have and see TIS-A traffic no problem. In your opinion is it worth considering an upgrade (I doubt it)? This is the Mooney SB btw... I was hoping to find another Garmin product to interface without replacing the transponder. Not feasible I guess.
  18. I thought so too. However if you look at the MFD it looks like it gets ADSB traffic data. Maybe that's from another (separate?) internal G1000 transponder though. That configuration must be A LOT more expensive I am sure.
  19. I do have ADSB out in my G1000 configuration. I am using my iPad now to get ADSB IN (traffic and weather) but it'd be nice to have it integrated on the G1000 MFD. What are my options to do this? As an example, I have seen this setup below (on FB not mine) and I was not aware that I could interface a Garmin GDL 50 to a G1000 MFD. What type of cable accessory is needed to do this?
  20. Thanks! Is that a Mooney jack point or what are you using between the jack and the steel frame tube?
  21. Thank you everyone. It looks like the OnePak+FliteCharts is the better option. I do not need Jepp charts.
  22. ALL VERY helpful. Does anyone have a picture of a jack used under an IO-550 to understand length needed? Thanks!!
  23. Quick update. Issue appears to be mechanical. Lifting the red 3 point (Cessna type) connector and holding it in position by hand it triggers the solenoid. Only battery one can be charged on my Ovation. I need to put something underneath to hold it in position and when I do that I see Batt 1 at >28v stable and -6 amps on the G1000 so I think that it’s charging now. Maybe my a loose connection?
  24. Lite seems to have FlightCharts and it seems to be a bit cheaper. But no Jepps NAV data not sure what that means in terms of feature/benefits?
