  1. Yes, my chrome does look like a shattered window pattern. At first I freaked out as I expected the typical cross hatch.
  2. Great read on this topic for me as I have the io360 A1A w chrome cylinders consuming about a qt/4hrs. I have a borescope and due to take a look at my valves.. I’m a Mike Bush fan hell yea! I’ve noticed in my previous borescopes my chrome cylinder walls look significantly different than the typical cross hatched pattern standard cylinders. So, how would I know if I have flaking? Does anyone have any pics with flaking? I’m ready to take a closer look at my cylinder walls. Cheers! And thanks! Once I do my borescope I’ll share pics here. Chris
  3. There’s a AD on mine where the actuator gets inspected and lubricated.. Hopefully your IA actually did all that on the last annual.
  4. I think I had the same problem. Mine ended up being the motor brushes. When it completely fails (it will), make sure you know how to crank down the gear!
  5. I have my ears to the ground..
  6. Thank you Carousam and 47U !!! I at least know that my breather tube is upside down (whistle hole) as well as out of position.
  7. Thank you all!!! I at least know that my breather tube is upside down as well as out of position.
  8. Thanks Carusoam. That’s my problem... I cannot find the dimensions.
  9. Any opinions on the placement of the breather tube? The red arrow in the 2nd photo notes the “whistle hole”. The blue arrow notes the position of the tube end above the bottom of the fuselage at firewall which is approximately 1 inch. Wondering if it needs to be flush. Thanks.
  10. There was no way to remove the caliper bolts unless I removed the gear door link.
  11. Biggest myth? Hmmmm… Mooneys will get you laid way more than Pipers or Cessnas :-)
  12. I suspect mine is not in the correct position and maybe pulling a suction drawing out excessive oil vapors from the crankcase… and on to the belly. It’s an easy check to eliminate the cause of my excessive oil consumption. Would someone kindly share a picture of their tube and a measurement? I’ll photograph mine next time I’m at the hangar. I’m hoping that’s the issue. I do have chrome cylinders which are known to have a higher blow-by than other types. I’ve been consuming about a quart very 4ish hours and would like to improve that. I am also considering a AOS. Also.. my oil filler tube is always loose at the base and seems I have to tighten it each flight.. I understand the loose filler tube could be a cause of elevated crankcase pressure. I might do the old airspeed indicator trick to check the crankcase pressures as Mike Busch mentions. Comments please! Thanks, Chris here is a great video from Mike Busch discussing crank case pressures, blow by, leaks, causes, etc….
  13. When it is that cold I would never start/run the engine. There is a lot of friction happening before the oil can begin to lubricate. It’ll definitely shorten the life of the engine. Any temps below 30 degF I would get a heated hangar or an oil dipstick heater with an extension cord or even a hair dryer. I like the windsheild wiper fluid idea for de icing the wings
  14. Not sure if I posted this here, but feel free to comment.. enjoy!
  15. It’s been on my Christmas wish list…
  16. Shhh, don’t mention Tx. We got enough problems with Californians moving here already. Austin is now screwed up and the wine grown here sucks!
  17. Yes it is still for sale. Sorry for the slow response. It’s faster to text my cell at 903-718-1010. I don’t get on here every day. Chris
  18. What you probably heard was the LG (still up) alert when you pull back the throttle. It sounds similar to the stall warning.
  19. I carry a Hangar 9 Micro Digital tachometer in my flight bag. I found my E reads 100rpm lower than it actually is. It works nicely though the windscreen and is inexpensive. I also fly several Cessnas and Pipers and most of the time the dash tach is dead on.
  20. Oh yea I saw you! There was another Mooney parked next to me at the GA parking and thought maybe it was you. When I did see you I thought.. why the heck is that jet guy waving at me, so I waved back. I told my girlfriend that guy certainly inflating my already inflated ego lol.
  21. I’m going to steal this! Lol
  22. And that was only 150 TAS.. I was only running 2400 rpm, 18” manifold, and 50 LOP, and 8.3 gph. I should have pushed everything forward to see what I could really get. Btw.. I was at 4,000 in the soup when atc asked if I had a visual.. negative I was in IMC and 3 miles from the airport, then I popped out of the clouds, got visual, then handed off to tower.. the only guy in the tower delayed answering my call (was on the phone) and I was already on base turning final, experiencing extreme windsheer.. going to land anyway. I was getting tossed around in the ground effect about to go full throttle when I miraculously touched down.. scariest landing out of maybe 1,300 landings so far. You gotta be on your game with the local tower guys there… happened to me before.. maybe I snuck up on them so fast :-)
  23. That was me! Nice looking Mooney yourself. I was hitting some serious wind shear this morning and this afternoon… then experienced a 57 knot headwind back to Texas, uggghh. I did get a nice 195 knot GS coming into KBBG though.
  24. Came from a 66E model, New brushes, tested good, $1,000, pm me if interested.
