  1. This would be a more permanent move. I'm trying to figure out whether the best option would be to take the Mooney to Europe and fly it on my FAA license, or if it's easier/better to sell the Mooney here, buy another one registered over there and convert my CPL + IR to an EASA equivalent. Good call on the taxes...
  2. Has anyone here had their mooney or similar aircraft ferried over from the US (in my case East Coast) to continental Europe (or vice-versa - I imagine costs are similar)? This is a purely exploratory conversation for now and that's why I haven't sough out a quote outright from the known quantities in the space. I'm just trying to figure out whether we're talking $5K, $10K, or $30K - order of magnitude estimates really. Related: how hard is it to get your FAA PPL or CPL converted to the EASA equivalent? Any thoughts welcome. Thanks!!!
  3. Not all 345s gave integrated GPS. If you have a compatible GPS source, such as the 530, it'll use that instead, so when you turn the 530 off, the 345 has no location information to give you traffic. That's my guess.
  4. last month I needed a part for my K and found it through Wentworth salvage. They seemed to have a whole plane there in parts, and what I needed was in the landing gear region, so you might luck out. I'd give them a call. Cost me a third of what mooney/lasar wanted for a new one, and I got it in a few days vs many weeks
  5. 115-120 kias on downwind (21"), gear down abeam the 1000' marker, power 16", half flaps, 80 kias on base, full flaps, 70 kias crossing the threshold, squeak.
  6. Plexus and cheap microfiber cloth. Let the Plexus sit for a moment to dissolve the bugs :-) (usually the time it takes for me to go around the cowling and spray the other side and come back)
  7. 1. not a LOT of trouble - i've flown without an ipad before. it'd be ONE flight, no biggy 2. not really about reducing the current subscription. more like, i'd never pay more money for jepp charts, mostly because i don't fly enough ifr to justify it. BUT, if there was a way to get them for free for a little bit just to see what the fuss is all about, i'd be all over it 3. CB to the core baby
  8. My current subscription ends on Monday, April 12. I'll be at SNF on Tuesday, April 13. If there's a good chance at a nice deal/promotion I'll hustle down using only my 430w + old avidyne MFD + paper plates, and renew the subscription there - i don't know, free Jepp charts with premium, or free performance with Jepp, 20% off everything.... If they typically don't do anything outstanding (5% off performance if you subscribe for ten years type deal :-)) then I'll just bite the bullet and fly down with the mighty ipad next to me. Thoughts? This, as you can tell, will be my first venture at SNF. See some of you there? R
  9. Found one at Wentworth. Let's see.
  10. I did on a separate (older) thread. But no worries, I managed to get my hands on one from Wentworth salvage. Saved me a good buck there (assuming it actually arrives - they're not great at communicating after you put the order in :-)) Thanks!
  11. I only found ONE on the entire interwebs, and it's cracked in two places - i'll probably take the other one out for the time being and lose a couple of knots while either I wait for a new one or find a used one somewhere.
  12. thanks for checking! I'll give them a call. Yeah, they're rare and somehow it takes a month to manufacture a new one - i guess it's mining the unobtanium that takes so long :-)
  13. I know it's a long shot but do you still have those doors lying around somewhere?
  14. Inner gear door was damaged towing the plane off the runway after a flat tire...
  15. I try and go up once a week at least. Sometimes it's 10 days - plane sits outside and sometimes it's enclosed in ice :-). I bought a solar powered batteryminder that I leave hooked up to the battery - even with all the clouds and snow, battery is now always at a healthy 13.5+V when I switch on the master. I hear you on the "just buzzing around" bit, but it beats letting the engine sit. The previous owner of my K flew maybe 30 hours a year - the oil analysis was all kinds of off. After I bought it and put 220 hours in one year, every sample just got better and better (even got a little shout out from the blackstone labs folks!). Also there's something to be said about proficiency. I feel like the quality of my landings and overall flying degrade quickly after a long break. Simple things, like forgetting to turn off the landing light after take-off, only to catch it when running a checklist etc. The checklist takes care of these little slips, but it's indicative of something in my opinion.
  16. It seems there are enough people interested in making this happen - how do we do it? Who do we need to beg?
  17. I purchased these parts for my annual inspection and didn't need them, but it's too late to return on spruce. Hobbs has never been taken out of the box (I had a different problem and was able to keep the old one in), CHT probe, we opened the bag, but couldn't use it because it was a different type of connector - we didn't even take it out of the bag, just ripped the top open... Hobbs is a Datcon 871 12/24v, I paid $72.75 - goes for $50 (https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/inpages/datcon_hrmeter.php) Probe is a universal CHT type K probe, I paid $66.95 - goes for $45 (https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/pnpages/11-01023.php) Thanks!
  18. Does anyone have a salvage/spare induction duct they'd like to sell? something like the picture below, but I don't need the filter housing/bottom part, just the upper intake duct. Thanks!
  19. Speed brakes are useful if you live near or under very congested airspace (like NY, DC etc.) where more often than not you'll find yourself awarded the "Stuka arrival" as someone on MS once said to me, and you have 5nm to come down from 9000ft and join the pattern while maintaining "approach speed".
  20. mine has just under 900lbs! and apart from the large O2 bottle in the back, I'm not sure what else is eating up so much UL. I suspect there's a ton of useless stuff behind the panel (a sirius box, a 14/28V transformer for either the sirius box or the avidyne I can't remember, ADF crap, and who know what else) that I'll have to deal with one of these days. But I can't see how that'd add up to 100lbs.
