  1. You guys running into a lot of J’s that are toast? This plane was painted and interior re-done THEN it was in Midwest for duration and hangered. I am NOT worried about corrosion in the airframe from the six years. It WILL be inspected, but I am not expecting this to be the deal-breaker. The likely deal-breaker will be a broker saying he can get THIS amount and it is going to be more than the idle run out engine/airframe are truly worth. He paid $110k when acquired and has done nothing but fly it to overhaul and let it sit...
  2. Thanks for the replies. The plane was painted and interior re-done as well as Missile Conversion while in California. The plane has been idle in a hanger in Iowa. I have not seen logs or had ANY panels off. Saw the plane through a business contact while he was showing me his light sport. He also has an A36 that is having a panel re-done. The plane was flown by a Corporate pilot for/with the owner. Bought another plane that the owner now plans to sell through a broker. I am in Iowa. Here is my thinking: If the plane passes an inspection with tubular and spar inspected for corrosion and it is “clear” a run out 201 is 60-70k right? This has immaculate paint/interior and solid avionics...THAT have been spun up intermittently with engine starts. I don’t see how I could do this for more than $70k. Any hours before overhaul on prop and engine are “Free”. Tanks will be 10-15K, Donuts another $1500. If it needs overhaul now $40k I would pass. Otherwise I would be tempted and do instruments as they fail. ADSB is another $5k looming. What do you all think?
  3. I came upon a plane that interests me. I seek your opinion on value based on “as is” condition. Here are particulars as I know them: TT Airframe 4400 1980 J (fixed back seat with leather interior and yokes. Strong paint) Shows well Engine: 1700 (run out) since new on engine and prop Avionics: Dual 430 Non Waas/Auto Pilot/Fuel Totalizer The bad. Out of annual and idle for SIX years. Hangered and engine started periodically Right tank needs seal. Controller has a couple priced in the Mid-High 80’s What do you think on price?
  4. I hear ya. But truth be told I hear Tommy too. Everybody has a different personality. I enjoy, check that, I LOVE a good rough and tumble debate. BUT, I have found I love being around Mooneyspace more so if you want to play in the sandbox you have to “check” your inner self. (I do this at work and in certain social circles daily). I enjoy this site very much and do understand that I am abrasive/opinionated/a bully/a dick/and ass (all as described by others). I am also a fun/outgoing/loving human being that is emotional. You will see the serious Mooniac here. If I offend know that it is not personal and I love and respect all (with Mooney Drivers like a cherry on top). I had a blast as ScottFromIowa/MyNameIsNobody and now Rogue, but I know I was offensive. I know that I was hurtful. Apologies to all. I truly AM sorry. I always say “I give what I get”, but truth be told I double down and triple down when in debate/douche mode. That button is off. As the wise -a- instructs: Move along. With regard to saying I will never come back. Childish words said with emotion/anger/disgust. I see that I am the one that warrants that anger and disgust after reading Tommy of late. I get it. Mea Culpa.
  5. So let it be written. So let it be done.
  6. That is quite the placard Looks like sandscript in the photo. Beautiful panel.
  7. Having not had MooneySpace and making a horrible buying decision I STRONGLY agree with GXR and would PASS on the plane you described. 13 hours on a Major three years ago. What is this owner doing? (We know, but that doesn’t make it better). When the plane is not flying AT LEAST 75-100 hours a year it is TIME TO SELL. The tool is not being adequately maintained. Look to Paul’s advise on your purchase. Still no guarantee, but if you buy equipped (avionics/airframe) close to where you want it the engine is a KNOWN detail. If it is any consolation I have ZERO regrets as my enjoyment with ownership over 20+ years. They are Mooneypits, but you can’t take it with you... Enjoy do not DREAD the hunt.
  8. And there is the rub. You know him to be a troll and yet you engage. Believe me I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND where you are coming from. Resist. Trolls only build themselves up with the feeding. It is a waste of time. VERY similar to trying to “change” someone’s core beliefs. No one cares about YOUR beliefs and politics. They care about THEIR beliefs and politics. Some are in one tribe. Some are in another. Some wish to avoid conflict at all costs and find BOTH sides offensive. There is no harmony to be found. Just like talking about religion and money (how much you have or don’t have) NOBODY wants to hear it. I will of course now be watching your technical contributions very closely as you are now suspected of being “one of those”
  9. Mike: Was this what you had hoped for?
  10. I bought a Gear alert system because I had that happen. I also give it a tug (down) on the collar without pressing the detent on final. The gear alert is tied in with the J-Bar gear locked/unlocked switch (that you can feel with gear up). Started yelling check gear! Check gear! Hopefully I would of tugged and caught it/looked/touched gear down light...but you never know. Glad you caught it. Nice job!
  11. Disengage Iron Man!!!! Go slug it out with Cap. A much better ending there.
  12. That’s a BINGO. Thanks.
  13. I just want to know what the third from -a-‘s mom was. I am stumped. Politics. Religion. _______? Unseen tatoo’s? Unseen moles? Snoring proclivity? Warts? Sexual history? How about Gossip about others? That might be a strong contender. A non-aviation topic would be fun, but no Religion, Politics or discussion of Sex.
  14. I’m going to go with -a- and just move on...
  15. I know where a beautiful unloved missile is lying dormant in a hanger just waiting to be loved...I wish I had the means...sigh. Buy her and fly her. LIVE your dream!
  16. I am no doubt wrong on my opinion. Alas, I am sticking with my original “call out” and it wasn’t directed at an individual post, but rather as a theme as I read. Your above explanation (really simple truisms ARE taught). I am not an instructor, perhaps you are. Go forth and share. I will do the same. I personally do not think somebody coming to a site inquiring about a C Model needs the sobering gloom of what if’s and judging their ability to apply A.I.M. It’s a wonder that anyone survives today. Yet they do. Survive...
  17. Sometimes it is fun just to dream. To think happy thoughts. Reality and absolutes are always a way to go though...
  18. Nope. Been there. Done that. Nobody cares. Especially if you live in flyover land. Next...
  19. Kb: I am really not sure what is going on with all the Debbie Downers here. A C is a great reliable airframe and engine. Maintenance on your plane and ON YOU (to make sure you fly and remain competent) are critical. These are OLD airframes that if not maintained well are money pits at best and unreliable to a fault at worst. That said the baggage holds 100 pounds and the back seat easily a hundred more and you and your add on there to make useful load. Keep learning and dreaming your dream. I bought my Mooney shortly after getting my complex rating and have hundreds of fun hours under the belt. Sounds like you have four wheel options as primary and the Mooney would be a fun and practical back-up. Enjoy your search and education in pursuit of your license to learn.
  20. You really need an attitude adjustment. Just wow.
  21. I appreciate your video. I am glad you yielded Mike. I would not of called the guy out in the air, but 100% would of searched out and had a conversation on the ground. I would also have wanted to know if he had others on board. My follow through with the “owner”/club/airport on who was flying and what they did with the airplane would of been largely influenced by the pilots actions when we had a conversation. I understand your emotion with the turning of base unannounced inside of you. Maybe only lesson learned for you would be to have the conversation once safely on the ground vs. in the air. I call out my entry to pattern and finish with my intention to land on ___runway at ___airport. Glad you are safe.
  22. I learned that (look out for NORDO individuals sharing airspace) on a trip to Arkansas. Nothing in NOTAMS, but upon arrival after a 2.5 hour cross country to Arkansas, I realized that there were 15-20 ultralights literally everywhere on the field. They were in grass on both sides of runway with humans of all shapes and sizes moving about. While taxing to tie down a young boy approached from front at a high pace in pursuit of his “buddy”. An adult (that may or may not have been wearing camo) emerged to grab him a second before I grabbed mixture...Vigilance is your friend in the air and on the ground.
  23. Part number is: F391-53S They cost about $25-35 and are readily available.
