  1. foothill- I asked them if they could do a weight and balance and ifr cert on my airplane. They said sure, any time next week (today is Friday) when I asked if they could come 5 miles down the road to my hangar at KPOC they said they were booked months out. last year I also had to buy a nose gear tube from them. It was 40% more than anywhere else. all this to say, these people, despite being an MSC suck, and that is NOT an 85k airplane.
  2. I can tell you two manufacturers who thought that would work out for them.
  3. Field approval cannot be done for an auto pilot. It MUST be done as a one time STC, and unless you’re building your own autopilot, you won’t get the engineering info needed from the manufacturer. it requires an FAA engineering rep, an STC, even if only for one serial number of airplane, a ton of engineering data, and a ton of paperwork. if you have an auto pilot that was “field approved” I suggest you don’t say it publicly, and keep the name of who approved it buried deep in a log entry. a few of us tried to go this route for the Dynon autopilot.
  4. The good news is that maybe once a year the “the factory” chimes in to give false hopes and provides new opportunities for you to give them money.
  5. Sell your airplane and buy one with approval for the autopilot you want.
  6. I’d be worried about ruts and tires digging in with the ground underneath being wet.
  7. Definitely not a Mite. What we have here is someone’s pile of junk loosely assorted into multiple airplane like assemblies.
  8. But at some point in the other guys example it would have become clear that replacing the wing was far more economical. to go from a reasonable 13k to more than double 28k, plus the extra time?
  9. The amount of pissed off I would be if this were me is not measurable in human readable metrics.
  10. How much are those flaps? Are they straight?
  11. You think my experience in electrical engineering and in building panels and avionics means I watch and criticize? I’ve done all my own maintenance since I’ve started ownership. and no, there is no place else that switch would be in a C.
  12. They must have gone with the steel smooth belly option. and the lead paint.
  13. You think splicing a wire correctly, behind the panel, with likely less than 2 inches of wire to deal with, in between the engine controls, is going to be a simple task? i’d LOVE to see you do it.
  14. The wire that goes to that screw terminal is cut. Getting to that wire, which is now shorter, is going to be an unpleasant experience. There is no ring on the cut wire to go to the screw terminal. you should go do it for him.
  15. That’s the gnd side. The other cut wire, the one I mentioned is not.
  16. Based on the way those wires are cut you can put this into one of two categories - option 1 - "Things I wish I hadn't removed option 2 - "Things I wish that other person hadn't removed" Working with what's left of that wire isn't going to be pleasant.
  17. If you want a warranty on your purchase, purchase an airplane with a factory warranty. If you think a seller is going to warranty a piece of machinery that’s likely been through many owners, and is 50 years old or more, I have some real bad news for you.
  18. Some day you can pay me to teach you how to do it.
  19. Oh how kind If you to not charge someone to learn a system that’s required to fly the airplane when you agreed to fly the airplane with a system you knew nothing about. Your services sound so appealing
  20. That’s because that’s not how that works. Next time you have a transponder issue try pulling the breaker that says “transponder”. There is no battery associated with it. There is a battery attached to the displays. if I was flying someone else’s airplane and something broke on my watch, I’d have a little bit more care than that. Not much, but a little. f I ever heard a ferry pilot say “whatever it’s not mine” in a situation like this they would not be my ferry pilot.
  21. A new housing is available from spruce for not a lot of money.
  22. Here it is. https://www.avweb.com/aviation-news/repair-parts-running-out-for-gns-430-530/
  23. I live in LA, I’m not an A&P, but I certainly know my way around a Mooney. where is it and what is it? are you looking for a full pre buy or someone to just look for the scary things?
  24. The shop you “bought it from” did the installation right? and they seemingly did that installation poorly correct? where did the shop think the unit they were installing came from? this isn’t your problem. It’s theirs. If they disabled any part or your function of your aircraft, that’s a major felony. filing a false report of stolen property - also a felony I believe. stop or reverse that second payment asap. Call Garmin, if the shop disabled your airplane in any way start the legal proceedings recess immediately.
  25. I know of an examiner that died when the wing fell off a piper in the middle of a check ride.
