Hey everyone, I am looking for a glareshield for me 1969 M20E as well as new instrument panel covers. I am wondering if anyone out there has purchased a glareshield that fits correctly with the sloped windshield? I am also looking for a place that has the instrument panel covers. My issue with these are the right hand side looks to be from an F model as my assorted gauges on that side site horizontally versus vertical. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Bob

TruTrak Autopilot Pre Order's / Status Update
Bob R replied to Jeev's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Sorry, forgot to mention I have the two G5's, GMU11 and GAD29B -
Bryan, I am not sure if you found a solution as yet but I have the same issue. My airplane calls for a probe part number Stewart Warner SW333-B. I have called SW and they are out of production. I tried the universal one and it appears to not work for my application. Let me share with you the specs for the Stewart Warner part and the Rochester one on Aircraft Spruce. I am certainly not an electrical engineer, but I do not believe they are exchangeable particularly relative to their respective resistance at temperature. I am not sure what the FAA expects us to do in these instances. Spend over 5K for and STC'ed primary? Anyone have a solution? BobStewart Warner SW333B.pdf Rochester 3080-38.pdf

TruTrak Autopilot Pre Order's / Status Update
Bob R replied to Jeev's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Hey All, Since it appears TT or King Bendix will never come out or STC their autopilot, I'm now looking at the Garmin GFC 500 for my 69 M20E. I have an initial quote of approximately 17K which includes the third servo for the trim. Those of you who do installations and such, I'm in California and I am wondering if this is reasonable as they're quoting it's about 100 hours to install. Any help or advice would be appreciated. I'm certainly not against flying the airplane out of state to save a little bit but obviously I want a really good job on it. -
I would not paint it. Have it powder coated. Had mine done and came out awesome.

We're all in the same boat. -
For clarification purposes, I'm sure Dana showed up on MS because I forwarded him the link to the post. I agree with most everybody's issues regarding my problem with Dana and Chief. Having one shop involved in the whole process is in fact a good idea. However, not being able to get my airplane in for 4 months I think is a ludicrous amount of time. I will not sit here and right fight this but I do want to make another point. I am waiting on my G5 to come back from Garmin. When I talked to Greg about this, he sent me down a G5 to use while my G5 (PFD) was and is out for repair. I am proud to call Greg a friend. He is an awesome and honest man. Is there any other place that would loan you a piece of equipment for diagnostics? Not that I know of. The point I want to make is for Dana to state, and I quote,"My heartburn with Baker started the day I received a call from the FBI telling me that it was Baker who stole my personal and Chief Avionics credit information and sold it to others after he departed Chief Avionics. This is a bunch of crap and was and is completely uncalled for in Dana's comment, is and was a libelous statement. Shame on Dana. I'm done with this subject. For all of you who know Greg, my heart goes out to him, his wife Leah and family, whose 14 year old son committed suicide last Saturday night. Elijah was a wonderful young man. I know the Baker family will never forget Elijah and will carry this pain forever, but I sincerely hope they can heal. Thank you for everything Greg and Leah. I will see you soon. Love you all. Bob

I bought the g5 from Chief because they had it in stock. Their lead time to install the G5 was 4 months. When I bought the G5 Greg wasn't even in business yet. Bob

Just not true Dana. I was specifically asked why I took it to Greg instead of Chief. NOTHING has been represented. You specifically told me I needed to swing the compass to get the GMU 11 to work after I told you that 2 different G5's reported the magmatometer was NOT present/recognized. Now how in the hell can you swing the compass when the PFD doesn't know the GMU 11 is installed? You started referencing the terminators for the canbus but no errors exist in diagnostics. I have been an IT systems engineer for over 20 years. I know all about terminating a bus. By the way, I have a new GMU 11 on the way. Would you like to make a wager that it is the GMU 11? As far as the GAD 29B, I did reference it. I just wanted to make sure everything was okay with it. As a customer, I don't see an issue with wanting to make sure all components are working after something took out the GMU 11 and the input power on the G5. The GMU 11 is $275 retail. Flying 700 miles round trip and paying you $120 an hour just to tell me there's an issue with the GMU 11, just makes no economic sense. You had a chance to service your customer who knew exactly what the problem was, and I suspect you did too, but you just didn't ccare. By the way, Bill Clinton said he didn't have sexual relations with that woman. What's your excuse? Bob

Just as Carusoam said, Greg solves problems. I called Garmin today they gave me a rash of crap, as usual. Ended up calling Greg and as of today he is a Garmin dealer. Lo and behold I'll have a new GMU 11 on Monday. As far as Robert's post, I have nothing bad to say about airborne. They resolved a squelch issue in my 530 at no cost. He's a great guy. However, I cannot imagine using anyone else but Baker Avionics for all of my avionics needs. Best bang for the buck and the work is outstanding. I am still struck by Chief caring more about where I took my airplane to get the avionics installed rather than take care of their customer. They will not need to take care of this customer in the future. Go BIG G. See you soon. Bob

While I hate to bad mouth any shop, this particular issue needs to be reported. For a month or so, I have been having a couple of issues with my primary PFD, Garmin G5. The first thing it did was stop booting up under airplane power and would only boot up on battery. The other issue is that is would not recognize the GMU 11. I checked the pin for power and it was present. I even swapped the power supplies between by two G5's and this did not resolve the issues. I called Greg at Baker Avionics and he graciously sent me down another G5 he had, and this resolved the issue of bootup under airplane power but not the GMU 11 being reported as not connected on the G5. I took my G5, which now is out of warranty and it is being sent to Garmin to be looked at. Realize, before I go further, Garmin classifies these as "Over the counter" units. I had two of these Garmin certified shops tell me that I needed to calibrate or swing the compass for the GMU 11 to work correctly. I tried to tell them it cannot be done unless the G5 recognized the GMU 11 and that when the aircraft is stationary, the G5's report a heading of 347 degrees no matter which way the aircraft is pointing. Today, I called Chief which is where I purchased the second G5 with GMU 11 and GAD 29B. They were more concerned with why I took the unit to Baker Avionics to have it installed instead of them. Furthermore, they want me to fly up to Grants Pass from Sacramento, so they can charge me $120/hr. diagnostics for a $275 part. Dana, their avionics manager, in my opinion, is completely out of touch with reality and is certainly sore that Baker Avionics has cut into their business. They do not care about their customer; they just want to be pissed off that someone had the gall to open a avionics business at the same airport. Dana must not believe in capitalism. I told them I took it to Greg because he was a friend of mine stopping short of telling him Chief was over priced and could not even address my airplane for four months. This second unit is under warranty. It is a no brainer and no skin off their butt to get is fixed. I am of the opinion they would just like to point the finger at Greg and as far as I am concerned, Greg's workmanship is better than I have experienced anywhere else. I will never purchase anything from Chief Aircraft again. I am calling Garmin tomorrow about their "Over the Counter" unit and want a RMA or advanced replacement sent out. I will bet a year's salary it is the GMU 11 and nothing else. I want the GAD 29B checked out as well. I don't need that unit to be bad if and when Tru-Trak is certified. Something blew the primary G5 and nothing has changed in the airplane. Do yourself a favor and stay away from Chief Aircraft, I know I will. I will post the outcome. Bob

Master Switch Wiring Diagram needed
Bob R replied to Bob R's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I'm in the middle of a wiring fiasco because whoever wired the main bus bar at some point in time really screwed it up. I have replaced all the breakers with the new style Klckson breakers. However, I don't have any power to the battery terminal on the ignition switch. The only complete wiring diagram I have is from a 67 M20E which does not have the wire numbers. In addition, the master switch when I pulled it out, was completely upside down therefore off was on and on was off, not that it makes a huge difference on a DPST style switch. I have the 106 service manual, unfortunately mine does not include the complete wiring diagram on one page, but I would love to know which wires go where on the master. There is also a wire that runs off the ignition switch ground which at this point actually engages the relay back in the battery compartment. I know my starter solenoid works because I can jump and it will crank. Of course, that does not mean the starter solenoid is good. I hope this helps and any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated. I have spent countless hours on my back verifying and redoing wire connections so I know they are correct. Thanks again, Bob -
Does anyone have a master switch wiring diagram or a complete wiring diagram for a 1969 Mooney M20E. I'm in desperate need of one. Bob
-
Hi John, I agree, they are ugly. My issue is I believe my E model was supposed to be a 1967 but on the test flight, the nose wheel collapsed and it subsequently came out as a 1968, but as most know, Mooney did not make an E model in 68. They just went with the Airworthiness Cert even though the serial number is 690007. Go figure. Regardless, I would like to talk to you some more about this as yours looks really nice. There are some mods I would need to make as I have electric flaps and my cover comes up pretty high with some intricate curves. I do have the original one with some pieces mising but it may be able to be used as a mold or I could get some thin aluminum to start molding then fashion it out of composite. Is there a good time to call you tomorrow? Bob 916-708-2929

I'm most certainly not blaming truetrac or PK at this moment. This is squirrely on the fa they really don't care about general aviation except for making everything cost an arm and a leg. -

You realize you are speaking of the organization that has created the monster we're certified and non-certified parts have such a disparity that it's a crime. I doubt they'll do shit until this Boeing thing is over I think that's all they care about it the moment. I most certainly hope I'm wrong. -
sorry John I guess I wasn't descriptive enough I'm looking for the interior cabin piece that covers that knows wheel well.

I am speaking of the interior plastic piece that covers that nose wheel well.

Everyone, I'm wondering if there's any m20 owners out there running the hartzell 2 blade scimitar. I'd like to know how you feel about it and if you've noticed any performance gain at Cruise or anywhere else for that matter.I'm changing from a hartzell three-blade to the two plates Emmett are as I hear it's almost identical in the climb. Bob
-
Hey everyone, Other than plane plastics, is there anybody out there making the nose wheel cover for that m20 he's 67 or 69 years. I'm a little leery of the nose wheel covers from plane plastics because I haven't found their stuff to fit very well. I know there's trimming that needs to be done but still. I'd like to know if somebody can make one of these out of composite. In addition I would entertain plane plastics if somebody could shoot me a picture of what it looks like when it's all put together. Bob

It's getting so bad Greg that if Garmin comes out with a GFC 500 I might have to go there. Did I say that with my outside voice? Bob -
I have a 3 blade polished spinner the came off my M20E. The prop was a Hartzell HC-C3YR-1RF. I'd like to sell it but trade is possible. Bob 916-708-2929

Greg, you know I'll be the first one there. However, just like everybody else on this forum, I would just like to have a realistic date of wind this is going to be released. I've been waiting over two and a half years I'm sure others have been waiting that long if not longer. It's starting to be laughable. By the way, yo me a phone call. -
Sorry, the one I had I sold to Alan Fox.
