iPad Mini4 vs bigger or wait for a the mini 5
Niko182 replied to Seth's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Exactly. gopros are USB-C. laptops are USB-C. all the new phones are transitioning over to USB-C. The ipad pros are USB-C. Why not make everything Just 1 connection type. -

iPad Mini4 vs bigger or wait for a the mini 5
Niko182 replied to Seth's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
I am slightly Irritated that they didn't move to the USB-C charger like all the other modern devices are now. -
This is exactly what ive been trying to say, and a lot of others have been saying. I think the only person that believes the g3x would be certified was m20kmooney. When i look at garmin, no where does it say non profit org. They are a business to make cash. G3x wouldnt make any cash. Why sell something for 12k when you can sell it for 20 to 30k. The g3x and the txi probably cost exactly the same to make, offer exactly the same things, and are practically the same models, except one has 4 buttons. Also the G3X setup being used in certified aircraft arent ifr approved. A limited vfr only mooney kind of beats the pupose of owning probably one of the best ifr XC machines. Not saying you need to fly it in ifr, but stating that you wouldnt be able to ever cirtify it for IFR.

Mooney M20M GX Bravo Prebuy - LPC Aviation
Niko182 replied to JJV7109's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
I wouldn't get a G1000 Bravo. barely any of them have waas. I was in the same baot last year and wanted a O2GX. decided on an eagle because it was either 135K for a mooney Eagle that could be upgraded to waas for about 10K. 235K for a Ovation Gx that didn't have waas and would cost me about 45K to get is Waas and ADS-B, or 325K for an Ovation GX with waas and ADSB. buying the cheaper plane gave me a lot of options. I can create my panel, and will never have to worry about being stuck with a G1000. with legacy avionics you have so many options. Garmin, Aspen, Avidyne, Mid continent, EI, JPI, Aveo, Lynx, you name it. with the G1000 you have the option for Garmin, and only that. I have @gsengle to thank for that. i remember giving him a lot of shit for telling me to get an Legacy Longbody. in the end he was right, and if I had to do it again, I would 100% get a pre 2005 Mooney. I'd say find an Older ovation and do the 310STC. -
I finished my install today. Took. Me about 7 and a half hours to do the complete setup. That included removing the powersupplies, re creating new connectors, and replacing all 3 strobe lights, and syncing the wing lights. As of now 2 of the 3 lights are synced and im quite ahppy about it. Also gained 4.2lbs of useful load. Ill add pictures tomorrow when its all signed off.
-
so just a regular 4 pin connector can be used?
-
I bought them off aircraft spruce. The set goes for about 1300 bucks, but its the last time youll need to replace the lights in the aircrafts life time. Also gain about 4 to 8 lbs of useful load, and the amp usage drops from 15 amps to about 2 to 4 amps.

can the older ovations be converted to the new type cup holders?
-
I'm trying to do my conversion this weekend. Can regular connectors from a computer shop be used or do they need to be certified? Nik

Sadly the limit is still at 26.7 GPH which is too low.

My Moritz gauges all work perfectly and are going for sale today or tomorrow. But since the RPM increased and the Red Line for the Moritz where different, the STC increasing the power of my aircraft required a new tach.
-
For sale I have an EI R1 tach. It was used in my Mooney that recently got a JPI 900 installed in it, so I no longer have any use for this. Its in perfect working condition. Displays RPM, Max RPM during the flight, Flight Time, tach Time, and Mag Failure. Great if you have a broken Primary RPM gauge or if you have an STC changing the max RPM. Max RPM on this unit is set at 2700RPM. Great unit, but as stated I have no use for it anymore as I don't have any panel space. Perfect for anyone wanting to do the 310HP STC, or for anyone wanting a more accurate tach. They're $450 new and its been used for about 4 months so I think $225 is more than fair. PM or text me with any questions. 949 267 8813 Nik

Sold the JPI. 1 EGT probe left. decided to keep one CHT and EGT as a spare. I want 75 shipped for the Probe. they go for 103 on AC.com and.
-
Pending 4 cylinder sale. will still have 1 CHT and 2 EGT probes left over. Nik

It would be cool if they did the Scimitar style blade like on the new acclaims and ovations. I know they're working on the acclaim prop for the Bravo, and I have no doubt that they'll see at least a 10 knot increase over the the older 3 Blade McCauley. I'm sure a composite top prop would give the 252's a good couple knots in airspeed, compared to the old round tipped 2 blade. I had nearly the same prop on my eagle and I did not like that prop very much. compared to the Hartzell its night and day.

I currently upgraded to a 900 so I no longer need the EDM700 that was previously in the aircraft. the 700 works just fine and records data. The screen works pretty good. Includes all the cabling, and I have new CHT and EGT probes. as in NEW and never used. I have 5 Bayonet CHT probes that are compatible with the Tanis heaters and 6 1280 EGT probes. I only have 5 CHT's since the 6th one was used in the install. size is 3 1/8 and includes all the cabling. Just for reference, this kit goes for $2225 new on aircraft spruce. I don't expect that for the kit but Please don't low ball me either. I'm willing to part the kit out. If you have a O or IO360, i'm more than willing to only sell 4 out of the 6 probes. REASONABLE OFFERS ONLY PLEASE. PM me or Call me at 949-267-8813. The attachment is a video just to show it in use. Ignore the EGT's. it was when the plane was being set up for a HP boost. PS every aircraft should have a good and reliable engine monitor. It'll pay for itself over the first 1 or 2 years. whether you decide to buy this or a JPI 930, an aircraft deserves a good and decent engine monitor. Snapchat-2041060613[1].mp4

or when my blades finally get too short, they can just be replaced with the faster 7498 blades. The hubs and spinner are the same.
-
310hp stc and a 3 blade hartzell SS prop. Increases the takeoff weight from 3200lbs to 3368lbs. So adds 168lbs of useful load and you lose about 12 due to the heavier 3 blade prop. Theres a lighter 3 blade thats actually considerably faster so that gains you back another 9 pounds and about 5 to 8 knots supposedly.
-
Its one of 2 mooneys that can be upgraded. Cant forget the eagle. I started at 970, and currently creeping up at 1137. The goal is 1200, which is a gonna be a very hard but I"ll see how hard it is once a partial panel redo is completed and the vacuum systems are removed, and the strobes. Also 10 lbs can be gained with the faster acclaim prop once one of those becomes available on the used market.

2019 TX Mooney Formation Flying Clinic: April 5th to 7th

anyone know when the one in chino is happening? -
Not gonna lie what garmin just pulled is a giant "fuck you" towards trio and tru trak. I understand its marketing, but they stated that the short bodies wont be certified with the gfc500. Then a lot of the short body owner, moved towards trio and trutrak. And right as the trio and tru trak are about to be certified, yeah, actually were gonna certify the gfc500 for the short bodies.
