  1. This post has been a good read but I'll take a pass on this install.
  2. At the rate things are progressing in avionics we will probably all have voice and text ten years from now at a much reduced price.
  3. I believe you are mistaken. The GFC 500 manual states the auto pilot is to be flown from the left seat only. My G5 on the right side is stand alone attitude indicator and is not mated to either the 650, 705 or the GFC500. I have seen numerous other aircraft that have had a backup attitude indicators (G5) installed on the right side.
  4. I stuck an extra G5 on the right side because I enjoy flying from the right seat.
  5. It is not a real bad flight from Philadelphia to Tampa for this old truck driver in an Ovation One tank of gas, a sandwich, a thermos of coffee and a gel pee bag or two.
  6. Great advice. I am ordering tomorrow. Do you know if the "smart glide" is available yet for the Mooney Ovation? Norm
  7. Sarasota Avionics is advertising upgrades for both the GTN 650 & 750 to the 650 & 750 XI Series at a very attractive price. The sale ends tomorrow and I am seriously considering making the switch. Has anyone else made this upgrade and was it worth it? Looking for thoughts opinions and advice. Norm Clemmer N995K
  8. I'm also in the GFC-500 club with the GTN 750. It's simple to use and rock solid.
  9. Everyone knows about the Fat Ladies but does anyone know about the Belt Extension?
  10. What did it smell like?
  11. I'm looking for a seat belt extension to keep in my airplane. Anyone know if a standard seat belt extension that is used on commercial airlines will work on a Ovation? I had a volunteer flight the other week and the lady was plump, My Ovation's seat belt was about 15 inches too short and she had to remove her coat and lift up her belly so we could slide the seat belt in the folds underneath. After a quite struggle we got it latched. I know it sounds funny but it had to be quite embarrassing for her.
  12. I'm bought a set of Rosens last summer for my Ovation and am thinking about getting rid of them. They are too damn big.
  13. Anyone know where you can buy a seat belt extension that fits an Ovation? I had an Angel Flight yesterday and the lady was so fat we had to take off her coat, lift her belly and compress her to get the seat belt on. It was a struggle and I felt bad for her. It had to be embarrassing. Norm
  14. Switching our to the 310 hp with the I0 550 N and prop really increased take off performance. But even with that my Ovation at max weight is a runway hog on takeoff. I can land in a lot less distance than it takes to take off.
  15. Anyone have pictures showing the difference between the G & N cylinders?
  16. What does the labeling say underneath the breakers?
  17. With all the time you guys are spending watching CHT and EGT are you spending any time looking out the window and flying the plane? Just wondering.
  18. It cost me 53K to have known icing installed on my Ovation in 1997.
  19. I am an expert at flat spotting tires when I land light and touch the brakes. I am guilty of needing new tires too often...
  20. Sadly when I picked up 995K at Sure Flight after the YD install it was not near as bumpy as I had been hoping for. I could feel a small difference turning the YD on and off but not much. I need to check it out in weather with continuous moderate turbulence and chop. I flew yesterday and there were no bumps. The YD kept the ball pretty much centered with feet on the floor during 45+ turns. I'm changing my prelanding check list from GUMP to GUMPY. I wonder what the impact would landing in gusty crosswinds with the YD on?
  21. I flunked 3rd grade spelling...
  22. I've been really happy with my GFC500 but it bothered me that it had a YD button that wasn't hooked up to anything. So I dropped her off at Sure Flight and they are fixing this problem for me today. Some people tell me that the yaw damper will make my passengers more comfortable and others say it isn't worth the bother. It is going to be interesting to fly into some moderate turbulence and find out how it works.
  23. i don't think you have an issue. Run it in the air while you are flying and see what happens.
  24. My FIKI was installed by the Mooney factory and the W&B sheet in my POH states that the weight is calculated with "Full Fluid" Norm N995K
