  1. Nice work. I know it's a little late but I think JPI has wire extensions for this type of movement (not sure about primary units). I would see if an iPad Air fits on the open panel. The mini is pretty small for that distance.
  2. IMO take out all the verbiage about Hobbs time. Use straight tach time and charge accordingly. Treat it like a business instead of sharing between friends. I think you said the engine has low hours, if so and the overhaul is over a decade old be prepared to feed it a few parts as it transitions to a rental unit. I personally would not go through the pains of ownership unless I had one of the following... -sole use of the plane -all purchase and operating expenses divided equally between members (partners) -profit from using my plane as a rental To sum things up the only friend I would give permission to fly the plane would not need to be asked to return the plane full and would not be charged an hourly rate.
  3. I think you need a backup plane...
  4. I personally think the install that keeps the altitude preselect is the way to go. Does the 150 have attitude (pitch) hold? That method works great for me.
  5. Totally agree but also feel the exact same way about the 440 and 540...the g500 and at least one 750 is the minimum for this level of aircraft In the end the buyer will demand a 310 hp ovation with active traffic, dual gps, excellent maintenance, and the latest in PFD's (imo nothing available at this time will be high end in 10 years...the technology is already a decade old).
  6. Keep in mind the g500 43e adapter with unlock code is 5-6 amu and the svt is another 5 amu upgrade...I've always looked at the g500 as being twice the price as a single Aspen by the time you dump the 256.
  7. http://www.theplaneexchange.com/listman/listings/l0013.html I like to open the major websites and click on the recently updated listings...saves a lot of time.
  8. Only to replace the AI...it will drive the AP steering without it.
  9. Yep, the Aspen has gpss. I think you will need the ea100 for the kfc200 if you want to dump the ki256.
  10. Looks like Aspen is having a 2 amu discount off the pro plus package which also includes the adsb unlock. It's going to be hard to resist this pricing...every feature I want, nothing extra.
  11. There is a M20G on TAP with slight hail damage (ask for some high res images in good light) that might be a good value for you...
  12. I replaced fewer cylinders in the 2000 hrs hrs I flew the plane than the original owner did in the first few hundred. So yes, good engine management utilizing LOP has paid off over the long term. Looking for another 2500 hrs of low maintenance bliss...
  13. I give a lot of credit to the individuals who want to use a mask every flight. I don't really care for them and my wife is not a fan. If I lived out west and forced the issue I'm sure we would manage. However, it would not be hard to talk her into pressurized comfort.
  14. Panel update, engine monitor, and 430w would take you a long way. I've seen the 340's and 8000bt both go for around 800 used and I think they use the same rack. The SL30 is a great unit and fairly durable. I've noticed the SL40 com only goes for around 1k if you need to save some money. The flight stream would be nice down the road. With the newer gps units you can enter FP very quickly and on all the units you can save the common routes. I'd be surprised if you could get a used Aspen installed / integrated for under 10k. I've also noticed some people have lots of problems with Aspen units and some are trouble free...I'd want to avoid a problematic unit.
  15. Looks like a good approach. A lot of the dollar amounts will be dramatically lower if done at the same time. My estimates: 2. Used -$200 3. 13k for a new unit installed 4. Keep it simple, a member on here could help 2k 5. Used 340. 1400 installed 6. Used sl30 installed $3500 7. 345 only go without the flighhtstream 8. Expensive...11-12k 9. These can be expensive to install but a great option w/ flying rebates.
  16. As much as I like the larger screens I'd go for the ifd440 or 650. Probably be around 13k installed. Make sure you have a good quality backup nav/com or at least a digital com unit. I'd go in the order of gps/nav/com, new panel, transponder/audio panel, g5's...
  17. To add to the above I feel the 430w will continue to be the standard for many years into the future. However, with adsb and fewer nav approaches the delta between the standard and waas versions will continue to increase in the years to come. Also let's be honest, probably half the IFR gps units are not pushed beyond direct to functions.
  18. I sold a 530w and 430w a couple years ago and the prices are the same now or a little higher. Unless the new units come down in price or the used markets become saturated the 430 will probably continue holding its value.
  19. Best option is to trade it in for the 440. Cheaper install vs the 650 and a better value IMO than the waas upgrade.
  20. Roger did you say electric gear only or based on the plane you might consider the manual?
  21. Looks like a nice tug. You might need to watch the unit closely to make sure it did not turn past the stops...does it turn like a zero turn or is it programmed to make slow arc corrections?
  22. I completely agree but also know it is hard to judge potential buyers. The seller did mention he is willing to accommodate any type of in person viewing and log book access. Nothing about this seller would sway me from a good quality plane at this point. However, he would not be my first choice to run a company.
  23. Roger I was not knocking you in any way. The seller in his 20's would have no problem working in the digital format and could provide the last 7 years of logbook images with his phone in under five minutes. My suggestion is don't come on so strong with the as many generic questions. Carefully read the ad and compare that to the scanned recent logs (again demand that). Ask only the questions that fill in the gaps...meaning you need to read the logs carefully and they could answer a lot of your questions. If the logs look good jump in the car or grab a flight to see the plane and pay for a few hrs of a local A&P time to quickly check it over. Only after the plane passed the above process would I pay to have it flown down to have Don look at it.
  24. Just looked at the 20E linked ad. Looks like a nice plane IMO. If you are passing on this because of a couple responses you received you are taking this process too personally. Contact the seller again and demand the last 7 years of logbooks scanned and sent to you. If they look good hop in a car and go look at it and take a couple hrs to look at the logs etc. Seperate yourself from all the tire kickers that use barnstormers as a hobby
  25. Personal opinion... Buyer- Cut your list of questions in half Don't sweat the small stuff Dont out a member, just mention that they are members Put eyes on the plane Seller- scan the d___ logbooks Treat every inquiry like you would want to be treated
