Which mag do you have? Lynn is thinking it's in the neighborhood of 48-60", if you don't know exactly, err on the side of safety... You have to make up the end that goes to the switch anyway, so shoot for longer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

We performed a JPI930 on a 201J a couple of years ago. That included removal of existing engine monitor system and original equipment primary gauges. Also installed the 930 primary with fuel flow and quantity (which had to be calibrated). We performed the work in just under 67 man hours. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Seeing how other shops treat AOG customers really chaps my....... I agree with you here. I am more than proud to say we do not rip it off in Mrs./Mr. AOG. They don't receive a higher shop rate, and the markup is the same on the parts. If their emergency is an hr or 2 of our labor, they receive a 'safe travels' - not an invoice. We treat them as if they had been coming to us for years. Someone having a REALLY bad day isn't an opportunity to make bank. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Our local small engine repair shop (lawnmower and weedeaters) charge more per hour than our shop. Ditch the yardwork and go flying. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

I am curious, you had just had the mags overhauled and within 6hours the case was cracked? Was it a Bendix/slick? I am also curious as to where the case was cracked - near the mounting flange? If someone installs a Bendix mag with a slick gasket or omit the 'special washer's required for installation, the case certainly can crack. So many things can be screwed up on an airplane by not having the proper information or technical data. They hide that information in books

We just had a C come out of our shop: there was a significant amount of 'deferred maintenance' that had to be addressed. He upgraded his engine monitor, gear pucks, a few expensive landing gear bushings, down lock block... He purchased most of the parts himself to save our markup and I believe his total expense was around 6G to my knowledge. We've run across old invoices in other aircraft records and upon examination were flabbergasted how some were really taken advantage of. One example of that was a total of 80hrs to r&r an engine (on a J) - it usually takes 21-24 hours on a J that has primary engine monitors (JPI). Most shops are reasonable and fair, but there are some that are just unscrupulous. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

We charge for 24hours. Most aircraft manufacturers have some sort of reference document outlining how long an annual should take. We always average on the low side. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

I don't disagree. I thought how you presented it was humorous. The suction screen video was such a huge success, I do plan on posting a few more snippets of several things concerning an annual that I think people would be interested to see. You guys are more than welcome to sound off on those specific things and I'll do what I can. I do have a concern with offering a full-length DVD: we all know there will be SOMEONE who will take it upon themselves to use the video and try to perform the inspection/service themselves. While I believe these people are few and far between, I would hate to be responsible for injury or loss of life over a video meant only for information/reference. While a good idea, a full length video will take some thinking. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Hysterical! I'll have to be on the lookout for a good videographer... PPV only. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

We really need some Mooners to let us install some of his interiors! We have yet to perform one but we're really looking forward to it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

No, most do not have the preheated. On standard, you use a 5/8" wrench to remove it. Not every time, replace it if the washer is damaged. Be careful not to bend the screen re-installing it, it fits in like a little slot - according to Nathan, you can feel it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro -

It's pretty much the same. You guys didn't ask for the re-safetying... Just 'pulling'. A long pair of hemostats is very helpful and curved ones work best. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro -

Ok guys - here's the re-installation of the screen - minus the R-rated segment of re-safetying where we hear some unknown and colorful phrases. Just fyi, the screen came out clean. 34399758_585924511794568_5701013011729219584_n.mp4 -

Alright - Attached is a video (the best I could get - it was pretty cramped and THAT's not my hubby ) of removing an oil suction screen off of an M20J. I'll also be posting a video of the re installation. He's using an angled open ended wrench to remove it (which helps). Let me know what you guys think? (Except for the little injury you can see after he gets it out - that's pretty typical too). 34272004_397351424078579_5656757535567249408_n.mp4 -
