  1. I used to use Avare on Android, and it’s quite a capable app. Definitely nice that Android tablets normally put the GPS receiver on a separate chip from the cellular modem. But Apple doesn’t seem to have any trouble making money, so I assume their decision was very intentional I switched to an iPad because I started using Garmin Pilot, and GP on Android is far behind the iOS feature set. I don’t like the iPad hardware or software as much as I liked my Android tablets, but GP is definitely more capable on iOS. And the integration with my all-Garmin panel is worth the additional cost over Avare to me.
  2. I think you can call the flyGamin people and talk through it with them. I’ve heard they are pretty good at figuring out the best option for your hardware. Also - if you’ve done this recently, they might very well give you a credit for money paid if the product was incorrect.
  3. I have a OnePak bundle, and use GP as my EFB. Note that you only get the “Pro” upgrade as part of your OnePak. You still have to buy the base app.
  4. Nice, thanks
  5. My wingwalk is starting to look a little bit worse for wear. Did you brush this on yourself as an owner maintenance item? It sounds like it can be applied right over the existing?
  6. We had a thread on MS a few months ago about this. I believe @LANCECASPER mounts an iPhone Pro Max using a steelie ball.
  7. Definitely not the target audience for floatplanes, though I know there’s a bunch of us out here who are rated and would love a seaplane as a hangar mate. I’d still fly a normal glassy water approach and landing - with or without a gizmo.
  8. The only time I ever open the ram air on my J is when I’m flying with a terrible headwind and I want to make myself feel like I’ve tried everything.
  9. Just FYI - you can't not answer these questions. So even though it says "answer if you've...," you still have to pick the last one if it doesn't apply.
  10. This is the old Bob Hoover “fly the thing as far into the crash as possible” situation. Keeping the plane above stall speed was the best plan to protect the occupants, even if it meant a 65-knot wings-level impact with the roof of the warehouse.
  11. I probably have the same setup as others here, with the G3X+EIS+GFC500+GTN, but honestly I would think seriously about knocking out your night+IR training with the panel you know. The GNS is a perfectly capable unit, and while a newer AP might be nice for instrument flight, it's not very important for IR training. You'll probably do better with a super-familiar panel for your instrument training, and you can tackle the panel upgrade after you have the rating.
  12. Yes, it’s excellent. I still have the converted DC, but the missus claimed that one and she leaves the fancy Bose for pax. So I need to convert my second DC if I actually want to use it
  13. Yeah the article said RV-10, but I didn’t look up the registration.

  15. Back in the barn after the first flight of 2025 for me ..
  16. As @hubcap mentioned, they were ruled unconstitutional in Missouri. I haven’t seen new legislation yet, but they’ll need to do something to address the constitutional problems with taking pictures of a license plate. No idea whether there is a public/private partnership involved. Ref: https://www.courts.mo.gov/file.jsp?id=90869
  17. The video definitely made it seem like the issue was differences in evaporation behavior between 100LL and G100UL, where some component of the G100UL evaporated very slowly and pooled at the edges of the paint. It may be that fully submerging a painted inspection panel and then cleaning and drying it on removal will result in no visible damage, but allowing it to dry on its own causes the peeling and flaking.
  18. OT: I think they may be coming back, at least in KC. I still drive through intersections on 71 and 152 with old signage about stoplight cameras, but I believe the KC city council approved the reintroduction this fall.
  19. Yeah, the key thing is to force the conversation to the one thread. It becomes really nuts when each thread continues on its own and people keep repeating the same discussion points separately.
  20. What I took from the video was that the fuel evaporated much differently than 100LL does, and the slow evaporation and pooling at the edges caused the G100UL to stay in contact with the edge paint for an extended period of time. So the effect was more pronounced at the edges only because the edges were in contact with the fuel longer.
  21. I’m sure this is a bit premature, but has anyone seen any commentary from 172 operators who are running Swift 100R? Maybe this is just the one flight school in San Carlos? If 100R turns out to be a viable fleetwide replacement, we’ll have to invest in a lot more popcorn.
  22. Yeah, sorry - already edited with my incorrect assumption
  23. From the video, it seems like they have already stopped selling it (due to an issue with the truck or something) ETA: I guess you meant stop selling it altogether - the video mentioned they had stopped selling at Reid Hillview
  24. No idea what aircraft we’re talking about, but I wouldn’t schedule a tank reseal based on some underwing blue stains. There are lots of different ways to get fuel stains under your wings (leaky fuel sender gasket, leaky fuel sump gasket, etc). If the PPI shows fuel stains, it’s definitely something I would keep an eye on, but I wouldn’t schedule a $10k service based on that. You’ll have plenty of unexpected expenses in your first couple years of ownership.
  25. I didn’t mean to suggest this as an alternative to the “Alternative Fuels Forum” suggestion. I think it would be good to have a G100UL megathread even if it’s in a separate forum. I’m subscribed to all of the G100UL threads and it’s getting kind of crazy.
