  1. We can install aspens for 12k all day long but in the end it's your preference. If you like the HSI get it fixed and if you want glass get it. If you want to play with an aspen we have a demo unit in to office powered up in demo mode.
  2. You need nothing but to have it configured properly. The "ES" satisfies your out. You will only get TIS-A traffic though, the ADS-B traffic is TIS-B (faster).
  3. For anyone not going to AOPA I will be representing our shop Penn Avionics at the fly in at Chester County Airport in Coatesville, PA. There will be people from our shop at AOPA in Frederick, MD as well. If you guys want to get and face to face talking done please stop in. We will be able to quote prices on most things.
  4. What kind of GPSS? And GPS? It could be something as simple as a gyro gain adjustment or a GPSS gain adjustment. I have a KFC 200 in the shop I'm working on right now.
  5. JPI is def most reliable EI is very proprietary in that the tech can't even adjust anything... If you order something wrong it takes weeks/manufacturer to fix. Insight has always had reliability issues. Their older units have no board support so eventually the main board fails... That being said I really believe that engine monitors are really personal preference since there are a bunch of really good units out there
  6. Is it STC'd? Or just TSOed? Biiiiiigggggg! Difference on whether or not you can put it in your plane...
  7. Upgrades aren't too much. You could go digital for under $2500 installed.
  8. If it is a demo version you won't get any paperwork with it so you won't be able to install it unless it's in an experimental.
  9. Yeah it's hard to quote them because there are so many different versions!
  10. The GDL88 is the only garmin panel mount solution but as I said you can get the "in" only version for a little cheaper. The freeflight box has an "in" only version as well but it is only a few hundred dollars cheaper than the in and out box right now because of the deal they have going on.
  11. It can get really crazy after 3-4 decades of lazy installs where they lay the new wires in and don't remove the old ones as they go! (my biggest pet peeve)
  12. Call me Monday at the shop (610)-436-1200 I have the numbers there but I believe it is the same amount of labor as the GDL88 because it has an AHRS and has to be mounted a certain way. It's supposed to be released next month. The new owner will answer at that number, he is taking every call that comes in right now. If you don't have an ADS-B solution yet the flightstream will interconnect to the GDL88 as well as the 530.
  13. Mostly all ADS-B "boxes" have a version available that is "in only" which means that your 330es will not be a waste. Now before you go get a GDL-88 for all your garmin stuff you need to decide which PFD you want. The reason is if you decide to go aspen you can get the free flight box that can come with built in WiFi. That unit will display on your aspen and the tablet (depending on the app you use)
  14. You should hear the customers I've had that had such bad wiring that I had to remove and replace most of it.... They get a picture of 50ft of wire on the ground..
  15. I'm afraid marauder is correct there is a minimum of 18" antenna separation from COM antennas and anything else. You can do the belly antenna and move it farther back. Mooneys get really interesting when it comes to antenna placement because there is the obvious low amount of real estate.
  16. Bring him with you. Doesn't have to be all mooneys! I'll put that 770 in anything!
  17. Stop and visit us while you are there too!
  18. Haha! Exactly!! I sent you an email get back to me when you can.
  19. Looks like your shop is doing some good work! I my customers always love the "in progress" pictures. Until they see them and have a heart attack! Haha! Good choice for your panel.
  20. I talked to my manager this morning about your issue and he has seen it before. He said it could be something as easy as a wire routing issue. So I would recommend having that checked first before you buy new equipment.
  21. I have no idea. I only know that they are different because the Feds gigged our shop on it. I believe the difference is a TSO is the FAA approving the data or part and the STC is the approval to put it in a type certificated aircraft. An experimental aircraft doesn't require something to have an STC because they are not type certificated aircraft. If you want to know more PM me and I will do some more research.
  22. Dave is correct, just because something is TSO does not mean it is STC approved.
  23. I think our general Aspen install is right around 12K.
  24. LEDS have power supplies too,it's just built in. We have a customer that changed to LEDs in his bonanza and they gave him audio problems and some other odd issues. Just to name one.
