  1. I’ve replaced two “G” engines with the IO550N. As long as one possesses the 310hp STC and your governor has been adjusted to the T20 standard, you’re approved to install the “N” engine (out of the box as 2700RPM / 310BHP) either as factory-new or factory-reman. Both have 2200-hour TBOs and zero-time logbooks, and are considered “approved”. The “N” engine is actually flat-rated to nearly 338hp, but is de-rated to 310. It is considered slightly more powerful than the “G”, per Minnis Aviation’s test criteria back when Bob Minnis established that STC. The “G” cylinder baffles are straight; whereas, the “N” baffles are tapered; the latter requiring a couple of sheet metal wedge pieces to fill gaps left behind that the “G” cylinders take up naturally by their straight baffle design. 2. Correct. Especially if the tailcone isn't sealed off from the cabin. Something that was added to the list of inspection items on my Ovation as of-late...and accomplished.
  3. Your sweet spot for flying the Ovation3 is full power (2700RPM) for takeoff, gradually leaning as you climb. Climbing through 1000’, you’ll pull back to 2550RPM and keep it there the rest of the way in climb, cruise, and descent. 50-75LOP is your best bet to keep cylinders happy and healthy. The 310HP STC is noticeable on the Ovation…on takeoff, in climb, and in cruise. You’ll love the performance.
  4. Antenna came from my most-recent upgrade efforts, and was used only a couple of months. Hardware and new gasket included. Antenna was only replaced with a GA 36 for uniformity. These are easily $325 - $400 new depending on where you buy them.
  5. I would second having AeroComfort do your work. It’s well worth the logistical challenges you may find in having to ship pieces back and forth. He’s done a few pieces for my two Mooneys and I’ve been nothing but pleased.
  6. FAR too much time on your hands, Rich…. :-)
  7. Looked at a few options, from twins, to Acclaims, to turpoprops. Nothing definitive yet.
  8. Hey Dan. So, the short version is the GEAR DOWN light gets its ground through the filaments of the old incandescent nav lights. With LED Nav lights (and their higher impedance), the GEAR DOWN light was always dim. Also, the Nav lights would come on to about half-intensity with the master switch on, but the Nav light switch off. We wired the GEAR DOWN light directly to ground to bring the GEAR DOWN light to full-intensity without impacting other lights or indicators.
  9. Time for me to move on from Ovation ownership to the next chapter. Cockpit and exterior pics are shown before the below list below was completed. More up-to-date pics as soon as I receive them. Aircraft is presently in San Marcos, TX while this work is being completed. ETA to complete is roughly 2-3 weeks. PM me to discuss. 10. @William Munney I’m not sure about the EarthX product, but the only airframe that is approved to use the TB17 from True Blue Power is the A36 Bonanza. Even if it becomes available for the Ovation, you likely won’t want to pay the price for one of them…let alone two. They’re easily north of $4,500 apiece. Edit…just had a look again (been over a year since I saw them around $4,500), and Spruce has them - albeit out of stock - for the bargain price of $6,779. Each.
  11. Understood; however, the iPad shouldn’t be IN the panel…period…especially taking up the space where you show it on the left. It’s a piece of consumer-grade hardware that happens to be accepted and used widely as an EFB. It’s fine, as long as it’s mounted in a location where it can be viewed easily when needed, but easily removed when you change aircraft as regularly as we do. In other words, out of your primary scan as well as your first officer’s (if you have one).
  12. Completely agree. Adding them here: @CAV Ice
  13. Is there any data from IO550G or IO550N engines with Energizer starters experiencing slippage while using 20w50 or 15w50 with or without Camguard? Forgive me if I missed it anywhere here or another thread.
