I had these Eaton annunciators made to replace the Mooney annunciator panel. The Engine/Engine is linked to the JPI and will give a low fuel warning. I kept the Vac Hi/Lo because I still have a vacuum pump for the speed brakes.
-
I didn't mean run it down in flight. When you are down to less than 5G, it's not too difficult to remove a fuel drain and run it dry into a container withe funnel. Aerodon
-
I don't think that's the right way to do it. Next time you run it down to 'the light', then drain the remaining fuel out to see how much was really left. My 252 has 104G useable, but i am told I can get as much as 109G in the tanks. There is no 'definitive' full mark, although when I calibrate the JPI gauge I will keep notes of exactly how much fuel to bottom of filler neck, top of filler neck etc. Aerodon

Certifying engine and propeller combinations is difficult. Just look how many installations have yellow arcs, and you cannot 'feel' the vibrations they are concerned about - its all internal to the engine / crankshaft / counterbalance weights etc. Once a propeller has been installed on an 'unapproved' combination, there is no telling what damage has been done. Yes I get it that it might be the same engine / prop combination that you might find on a certified plane. And yes that might be an approved combination. And my guess is the engine is more at risk than the propeller for hidden damage. Garmin sell 'experimental' G5's for less than certified. Lycoming sell 'experimental' engines for less than certified. Hartzell? Their approval and insurance costs are probably less for Experimental? So why would you expect 'free trade' between certified and experimental? Be grateful that you got all this information before buying. And thanks for sharing, it is a good learning experience for all of us.

These are new very old stock audio panels that are slide in replacements for the KMA24. Actually you have to use the new tray, same size, but the one connector is the same as the KMA24 and the other connector adds all the microphones and jacks for an intercom. Nice way to add an intercom with too much work. One has a marker beacon receiver, the other not. Aerodon

Here is a really nice 28V KX165 and KI206 indicator with glideslope to install as a number 2 navcom.

GTX345R with WAAS and vertical tray $5500
Aerodon replied to Aerodon's topic in Avionics / Parts Classifieds
Still available. Will trade down to a GTX335 with GPS, or a very nice GTX327 / 330. -
Quite possible that you have one ground to all the lights and it has become disconnected? Can't be too hard to check. And can't be too hard to test the controller to see if it providing an output? At some point its easier to change to a MaxDim duo?

I had wingtip mounted aft nav lights that went away when i installed the aveo wingtips. So I had to install a combined aft nav strobe led light on the rudder. i used the existing strobe power wire for the new strobe. I repurposed the old standby vacuum power wire for the aft nav light. And be aware, when you start installing LED's, you will mess with the gear down dimming circuit. Aerodon

Altimeter rebuild recommendations
Aerodon replied to Matthew P's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
There are so many airplanes getting glass cockpit upgrades that you can buy a nice United instruments altimeter with nice bright letters for less than you can get your old one repaired. And you will save a few hundred dollars by getting the newer one installed at the same time as taking the old one out. -
The 750 has a nice low rear end, especially without the remote audio panel. The remote panel does not have to be installed on top. And if you use a slim radio like the SL30, it can be installed a little lower. The GMC507 controller is also quite short behind the panel.
-
I have these never installed radios for sale. SL30 navcom with new install kit or prewired for MD200 indicator $3200. SL40 Com $1500.
-
I have a nice GTX345 with new install kit. Also GAE12 encoder for $250. Will accept some trades, GTX327 or 335 with GPS. Aerodon

Hi DC, The Mooney balance instructions are rather hard to read. They have a 'known weight' and variable distance method as well as 'absolute limits'. I prefer absolute limits as it is more consistent with other manufacturers procedures. I did a gross weight increase on a 252 to Encore. Similar procedure. The process called for a 'more balanced' rudder and a new part number for the lower balance weight. I installed the new lower balance weight and it balanced within limits without further ado. Your mod is similar, it also calls for a new balance weight, I assume it's the lower balance weight, not the rudder horn balance weight? If you have not installed it, I am not surprised that you are out of balance? To say it another way, if you have not changed the weight already, and your shop is trying to balance the rudder to the new specs, you should not be surprised that it is out of balance. I can't remember where the lower balance weight is, I will go look later. Aerodon

Trying to understand my electrical ground issue
Aerodon replied to Mooney-Shiner's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
It has something to do with the way that the audio amp works in modern audio panels. And it's quite hard to do because now you have to open up the ceiling to get access to the speaker. -
Trying to understand my electrical ground issue
Aerodon replied to Mooney-Shiner's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Yes, I am told not to wire up modern audio panels the way Cessna and Mooney used to do it. Do it like the PS Engineering shows it. -
Transponder antenna replacement questions
Aerodon replied to LANCECASPER's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
I think it is missing the ground plane, my plan is to use some adhesive backed copper foil and make sure there is a ground wire to the airframe somewhere? Aerodon -
GFC 500 installation – pitch trim change & aggressive IAS climb
Aerodon replied to unicom's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
There was a Bonanza that crashed after a GFC500 A/P install - on a test flight with the technician - because of an incorrectly reinstalled trim system. There was another Beech where the avionics shop made swiss cheese out of the main spar web - leading to a lawsuit. @dc_brasil pictures and description above are troubling - no need to remove too much, but it looks like the elevator spring was not installed correctly. @unicom - the service manual is pretty good at describing the adjustment of the stops, adjustment of the trim indicator, and required horizontal stabilator. @pt20J has got the right solution - if you mark everything before you take it apart and put it back together again the same way you should have no issues. You have to 'split' the torque tube behind the avionics tray to get the new trim gear on the shaft. My local avionics guy subs the servo installation out to a properly qualified maintenance / structures shop. You need quite a high avionics installation to justify a decent in-house solution. Aerodon -
So with a turbo there is a 7th probe just before the turbo (TIT), but normally aspirated, I have not seen one before.

This is a template for an adaptor plate I made on my CNC router for a Cygnet trim switch. The final was in 0.090 aluminum. It would be real easy to make the switchboard out of aluminum, I can't quite see - are all the inside faces vertical or tapered? And thickness? (I'm not a fan of 3D printing, always seems too fragile for the real world) Aerodon

Can you add electric trim on a F?
Aerodon replied to PierreZee's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
So I am installing a GFC500 which has a trim servo behind the avionics tray. This thread got me thinking, the GMA28C spins the shaft for the elevator trim, and it 'reverse drives' the manual trim wheel. But now I see there is a trim servo near the manual trim that I still need to remove. This could probably be retrofitted to the manual trim and operated with an up down switch, but legality? gear-up destroyed belly skins...
Aerodon replied to jimbob's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
BASparts have a 1 piece belly for M20K. I can take pictures of what the mountings look like. probably longer than you need? Approval??? Aerodon -
Let's buy Mooney - Crowdsourced Version - Straw dog.
Aerodon replied to Yetti's topic in General Mooney Talk
I think Van's had 400 engine deposits of $10k. Then they received the balance before delivery. Then they paid Lycoming 30 days. But when they went bankrupt, the deposit holders lost. -
There is a long line from th brake master cylinders to the reservoir behind the baggage compartment. Mine was leaking at the front T. Any brake leak will find its way to the drain on the removable belly panel.
