  1. at some point just destroy the removable panel for access and replace with a new one?
  2. I know of a seller of a really old C210 that stuffed a clean rag in the pedestal under the hydraulic gear lever to hide a leak. Pre purchase found the rag, lead him to the leak, lead to a U$2500 gear actuator overhaul plus labor (sellers cost). Real estate forms in BC have a sellers disclosure statement wth the option of yes / no / don't know. Recent court cases have found that 'don't know' is not a defence. Airplane sales contracts rely on where-is as-is and pre-purchase inspections. You get what you pay for. The best is to have someone on your side have a good look over a plane and logbooks and advise you what you are getting into. Lots of little things are expected, especially for a plane that has not flown a lot. You want to be warned about corrosion, damage history, expensive AD's and more Aerodon
  3. Mine came up in about 30 seconds with 4 bars. The GXM42's have a high failure rate and are not repairable. When I use my GDL52, it has a different 3 bar SXM display, but comes up quickly. I have not done a side by side comparison of the XM vs GDL, but the GDL has a battery and BT, so less wires. Aerodon
  4. Hi, welcome to Mooneyspace and Mooney ownership. I've seen this all the time, there are mechanics that try to keep the cost of ownership down by letting little things slide, and then when the plane is sold the next guy discovers a can of worms. I think a lot of the issues found are relatively minor and easy to fix. The fuel leak is obvious, there is a Mooney SB somewhere that describes allowable fuel stains, and I am sure this exceeds this. I think the previous mechanic told the seller that it's time to reseal the tanks ($$$) and he elected to sell. But both the annual and pre-purchase inspection should have picked this up and reported it to you. There's always a little e of catch up maintenance to get an airplane up to a new owners standard, hopefully it levels off. The fuel tank leak is going to be expensive, but even that will add some value to the plane when you sell in 10 years time. Aerodon
  5. Byron, I think a MFD GI-275 with battery and AHARS is one of the most capable instruments out there. A little bit of scope creep, but I am contemplating something similar with an SL30 for #2 and a G500 as the main display. My current thinking is to do a serial or resolver output from the SL30 to the GI-275, and then hope that the HSDB to the G500 will transfer #2 Nav to the G500. And then 'first prize' would be that the #2 OBS could be adjusted on either the G500 or the GI-275? Your setup is somewhat similar, can you adjust the #2 OBS from the Aspen? Aerodon
  6. It's a proper aviation inverter, KGS LT71A. Lonestar also make them. They are really expensive, but if you look around you will find a deal. I mounted it on the nose gear well, where the avionics fan used to be. My new avionics either don't need a fan, or have a built in fan or two. Cessna used Astron 2412 inverters in late model 172's. With a Cessna part number stuck on. These are less than $100 on the used market, but a little big for my location. These have an internal 3A fuse on the input side, so no need for another one. 7. It's not surprising that there is an inline fuse. The M20K has Ign, Cigar and Tach on that CB, and you would not want the CB tripping because you have overloaded the Cigar. I'm fairly certain I removed an inline fuse. Another issue is that on 28V planes, the solution was to put a large resistor to drop the voltage for the 5A cigar lighter. The problem is that when you plug in a 2A device, it probably sees 22V, not 14. I put a proper inverter in to reduce the voltage from 28 to 14V. And I had space for a new CB for the inverter, I still put in an inline fuse on the 14V output from the inverter. Aerodon
  8. Byron, Did you install one GI-275 as EIS and the other as MFD? And just showing both on engine because you can? Aerodon
  9. Now you are overthinking this. Just rely on the shop to make sure you have a good antenna and cable and move on. I would not rely on a 'whisker pole' antenna, and the issue you need to deal with is whether you have a 2 screw or 4 screw mount already. Replace with the same if yours is bad, but the 4 hole antennas are quite expensive. Aerodon
  10. Depends what you are starting with. If you have no GPS you will need a GPS antenna and RG400 cable to go with it. If you have an older GPS you may need a new GPS antenna and maybe cable. It's not hard to find a list of approved antennas and then in your logbook to see what you have already. You probably already have a reasonable transponder antenna, but more than likely have old cable. In the overall scheme of things, I would budget for new cables and new antennas. Aerodon
  11. I've put together another system, this is a 2022 display with less than 60 TT along with a new 6 CYL harness and probe package to match your plane. (A new system like this has a street price of $3155). I also have a new 4 CYL harness and various new and used probes. What do you need? Aerodon
  12. BAS Parts has got an M20M in for disassembly. This would be a good source of encore parts. But get the drawings out and make sure everything matches. The only parts I had to get from the factory were the gear doors. That might be a showstopper nowadays. Aerodon
  13. For a fellow 252 owner, yes.
  14. And newer receivers are probably much better than old. I would try removing that GS antenna completely and putting in th appropriate splitter and giving it a try. Don
  15. I have one of those CI-193 antennas for you, one with a little tab that can be used to mount to a round tube. Another option is to use your existing VOR antenna with the correct splitter to go to your two nav receivers. Use the opportunity to replace at least some of the coax. The separate GS antenna provides a better GS signal, less line of sight shielding and less 'splitting. Aerodon
  16. You might want to look for a 252 POH, my guess is the performance numbers will be closer to your configuration with the intercooler.
  17. The 610M is the same thing but with a molex connector (likely what you need). But I have seen 'teardrop' and 'oval' shaped lenses. Aerodon
  18. Not only that but the transmit and receive formats need to be th same for all devices. Not much of an issue with the SL30, but with a GPS, the receivers all need to be set to receive the same format and speed.
  19. The thing with antennas is they all have different footprints - the M20K has a 4 hole mounting, but the RF connector is offset to the left to miss the stringer on the centreline. There are some nice combined VHF / GPS antennas on the market, and BAS often has good used ones. An older one is still likely to meet the specs for a GNS430.
  20. There is a lot of vibration around alternators, and a lot of deterioration of wires forward of the firewall. It's not at all expensive to redo terminals, replace simple wires etc. Then look at your logbooks - when last was your alternator replaced or overhauled. ACU's are a little more difficult to troubleshoot. Use this as an opportunity to give your charging circuit an overhaul. Including the alternator mounting bushes etc. Your airplane is 'talking to you' - listen, get it fixed before you go fly. Aerodon https://pinpointharnessing.com make nice replacement wiring.
  21. That happens when someone's account is hijacked. But you can usually see through it when you ask a few intelligent questions that only an aviator would know the answer to, or star seeing mismatches between names and payment addresses etc. I bought a high value item recently, and did my due diligence on him, his airplane, his email address his phone number etc. Then he gave me his wife's email (without the same last name) for a payment and I stated all over again. She had a good internet footprint with a fascinating family business. And eventually I found a direct link between the two. Kind of fun to do this type of research, trolling with a purpose. Aerodon
  22. If you were to trace the outline and holes, I could draw it and CNC cut it. Even add an extra hole for a Lemo plug. Don
  23. Spruce will terminate one or both ends if you tell them what you want. Don't be random, get a tape measure out and measure the route. There are other avionics shops that will do that too.nnLook for the shops that do a lot of work for the experimental market. The RG59 was in poor shape in my 1986 M20K, i can't imagine how bad it is in a 1960's or 70's plane. Aerodon
  24. N228RM, Gunter and Tina Haug also landed in Reykjavik today. Mooney 252
