  2. Very nice! #envious
  3. On the recommendation I took it to McKee at San Marcus. It's the gear horn. I'll get it fixed after OSH.
  4. I've got a 64 M20C sn:2805. A year older than yours. After doing all the research I could about airplane ownership and the market I bought the best equipped C I could find. I spent $48K but got an almost perfectly equipped C. 825 hours on Factory Remanufactured engine, new paint, new interior, 530WAAS, HSI, STec30, and every speed mod ever developed for the C from the cowl and glass to the wing tiedown points. Get what you want, the way you want it and then just go fly. I'm sure that for every dollar you spend up front, you will save $4 in upgrades. Just my $0.02 Pictures are in the gallery.
  5. Thanks for all the advice. I get the noise without the prop turning. So it doesn't seem to be the alternator or the mags. I've confirmed that the lights, strobes, etc. have no effect. I'll try pulling the breaker for the stall horn and see if that makes a difference. But I do know both the stall warning and gear warning is a different sound and both work as expected. I've also got an electric backup AI but turning it on or off doesn't make a difference. Finally, the avionics master switch doesn't have any effect either. I think I'll take it in and let someone have a look.
  6. The only problem with a three digit tail number is having to repeat/explain it to ATC every time. Every time I request flight following or file in flight, I'm asked for my "full N number". Other than that, I love it. Paul - "Mooney 6XM"
  7. I'm looking for recommendations on a good avionics shop in the Austin or close, area. I've got a high pitched alarm/sound that I can't find. It only is on at low power and is somewhat intermittent. It's not the gear horn. My Zulu headset tunes it out pretty well, so it's not overly loud, but is very annoying. Ideally I'd like to find someone to take a look at it who isn't afraid of the very tight confines behind the panel in my C model. Thanks,

  16. All trained (San Marcus, TX Clinic), registered, paid, and planning for a Sioux Falls arrival with the Texas Wing.
  17. Wow! What a great time in San Marcus with the Mooney Caravan Formation Flying Clinic. The training, instruction and coaching was first rate all the way. I'll give a special shout out and thanks to the Safety Pilots who flew with me, Joker, Lois, and Pops. All three of them are first rate pilots and great guys to fly with. I expected to learn, but I learned much more than I expected. I'm super excited to join the Caravan. And am looking forward to catching up with everyone in Sioux Falls, SD. I'll add for those of you who haven't flown with this group or done any formation flying, you don't know what you're missing. I can promise you that you've never had this much fun in the practice area. Join us at an upcoming clinic and you can thank me later. Finally, thanks to Bucko for organizing a great event for the Texas Wing of the Mooney Caravan. The execution was flawless and a great time was had by all.
  18. It starts today! I might be just a little excited. I'll be flying the bird to San Marcos later this afternoon. I'd like to head out to the airport and leave now. But the clinic doesn't start until late this afternoon and my home base is only 16 min from KHYI. As a new Mooney owner with only 31 hours in the M20C, I'm really looking forward to all I can learn from some experienced Mooney pilots. Someday I'll go to a MPPP but I'm sure I'll learn heaps from this clinic. And if I somehow qualify for the Oshkosh Caravan, even better! I'm also looking forward to meeting some of you in San Marcos today.
  19. Was this by chance Jason Kramer? I spoke to him about getting checked out in my Mooney but I thought he was very expensive and wanted to spend quite a bit of time on the ground as well as in the plane. I think he quoted me $600. I used Tom Tweeddale out of Denton, TX. He's not Mooney specific but with over 600 hours of instruction time in Mooneys. He met me in Longview, we picked up the plane and flew it to Sherman, TX. On the way we did maneuvering, slow flight, stalls, etc. There was also plenty of time for theory questions and learning the systems. In Sherman we did several landings and takeoffs including short field, soft field, etc. and picked up fuel. From there we flew to Hidden Valley to drop Tom off at home. The insurance required 5.0 hours and a signature in the log book. Tom charges $35/hour.
  20. She looks like a very nice example.
  21. We've got thunderstorms, hail and tornados tonight here in Austin. I'm glad my Mooney is tucked away in it's own hanger. It won't survive a tornado, but an actual hit from one would be very rare.
  22. Spurs looking good again!
  23. The first flying I can remember was when I was about 5 or 6 and flying with my Grandfather in his Comanche 250. That's when I knew I'd have an airplane someday. I did my high performance/complex in a Comanche 250 and did two hours in one in preparations for the Mooney check out before buying my M20C. I briefly looked at Comanche's when it looked like the deal on the Mooney might fall through. I love the Comanche, but for the money, I don't think you can beat my Mooney.
