  1. When visiting family in NJ, MMU & CDW we’re equidistant. For a while, MMU was my usual stop. I switched to CDW when all but one FBO at MMU stopped selling avgas.

It's run by Sam Jewell & his son David. Years ago (2001) I had John Jewell do cylinder work on my 64E, and they do have a good reputation. However, I've had Jewell Aviation in Kennett MO do all but one of my Mooney annuals from 1995 until I sold my Mooney in 2019, including several cylinder rebuilds. Several of my friends were very happy when after they had Sam & David do engine rebuilds. While either shop does good work, I'd recommend you consider Jewell Aviation in Kennett MO.
  4. I doubt that most Mooney owners even have sufficient hanger space for a 77 foot cylinder.
  5. Maybe all virus are not created equal, just like GA aircraft. Mooney is fast & economical. Covid-19 is just a bit more virulent.
  6. How far back did you purchase 99W? Given that some people continue to pay recurring charges, is it possible the previous owner continues to pay unknowingly? ASAIK it's normal to pay a subscription fee for XM service on the 4/530W.
  7. May not be particularly relevant to your situation. Should I assume by "register in TN" you mean use your TN address on paperwork to the FAA? I've owned a couple of aircraft that were "registered in TN". However I was able to decline paying use/sales tax to TN since they were kept in a hangar across the river in AR.

  9. Dogs with a flat face, such as Maltese & Pugs, will have trouble breathing at higher altitudes. I suspect what you considered nervousness might have been breathing distress.
  10. If this continues, it maybe the prop crankshaft seal. Typically an easy repair but the prop need to come off. The seal leak can put a significant oil mist on the cowl and windscreen with minimal oil loss.
  11. Not really on topic, but one of the most "exciting" post-maintenance flights was after a shop installed a rebuilt AP elevator servo. I failed to notice the problem during preflight, and proceeded to climb to about 3k and then engaged the sTec 60-2. When I engaged the altitude preselect to climb to 4k, the AP immediately entered a steep dive. I then disengaged, climbed to 4k, and with a 3k preselect the AP immediately began a steep climb. Turns out the servo was wired in reverse. My shop blamed sTec, and explained that the servo that's used in several different aircraft needs to be wired in reverse only for the Mooney installation. I blame the shop, and also my inadequate preflight.
  12. It takes about 4.8kWh of energy, often electricity, to produce a gallon of gasoline. So the typical ICE is also partly coal powered.
  13. I believe owners will swap a LED landing light for the OEM incandescent without significant documentation other than a simple log entry. Maybe this is done by the owner without an A&P signoff. However, even though I understand why a reduced CB amperage makes sense, this change would require A&P endorsement. Maybe even a 337 as an alteration?

  15. I suspect that the controller was saying that he wouldn't allow YOU to fly into Bravo, likely to reduce workload. Not aware of any rules changes.
  16. If I still owned a Mooney and wasn't going to the Summit, I'd be all for the electronic option. As someone who was involved in the early years of the Summit auction, I can see how going electronic would eliminate serious issues that can mar the last few minutes of a live/manual auction.
  17. Also, when you download Foreflight updates consider eliminating the areas you might never need in flight. Before I upgraded my FlyQ files from an iPad with minimal memory, I only downloaded a handful of states in my immediate area and any others required for a flight I might have planned.

  19. If you do fly into KTHA and have time after the museum, consider the 15 minute drive to the Jack Daniel's Distillery in Lynchburg.
  20. As Anthony alluded to, don't overlook the insurance bump. Even if you wave off hull coverage, last I checked a binder to cover minimum EU liability can be as expensive as your fuel.
  21. When I observed this after a flight, it turned out to be a loose mag that had recently been installed by a well known MSC.
