rockydoc Posted May 3, 2013 Report Posted May 3, 2013 I spoke with this person about this aircraft and one thing after another raised its ugly head. First, it is advertised as a M20C, Super 21--of which there is no such thing. Second, the contact telephone number was disconnected so I had to contact him by email. Third, he said he was not a pilot and inherited the airplane from his father. His African accent didn't match his last name. Forth, he said I could not get the aircraft inspected because a prior USA buyer had backed out and the aircraft had already been prepared for shipment. What kind of shipment negated the option of an innspection i asked. He said the USA buyer had arranged to have the aircraft shipped to him by uship and that the aircraft was already IN BOXES!!!!!! At that point, I hung up. Beware of this seller.
DaV8or Posted May 3, 2013 Report Posted May 3, 2013 Let me guess, the plane used to belong to the King of Nairobi and he just needs money for shipping... 1
231Pilot Posted May 3, 2013 Report Posted May 3, 2013 How did you talk to him if the telephone was disconected? How did you detect an African accent if you had to contact him by email? There must be parts of this story that somehow got left out of the post.

larryb Posted May 3, 2013 Report Posted May 3, 2013 I looked at buying this plane last year when it was offered for sale out of Placerville, CA. I didn't buy it, but saw it getting some work at Top Gun (Stockton, CA) a few months later. Based on this, I think the plane is likely fine, but the for-sale posting is a fraud. Larry

Larry Guys, this is really scary! So somebody put up an airplane for sale that is not his...What are the implications...
FlyDave Posted May 3, 2013 Report Posted May 3, 2013 Check out the Wings and Wheels web site and scroll down to the Warning ! SCAM Alert http://wingsandwheels.com/wantads1.htm I have had my glider up for sale on Wings and Wheels and each time I renew it I get these BS hokey emails from dirtbags trying to scam me. The first time I put it up for sale I got the first one within 7 minutes of it going up on-line. So these things happen all the time.
fantom Posted May 3, 2013 Report Posted May 3, 2013 Caveat Emptor....especially if it sounds too good to be true! 1
rbs4159 Posted May 3, 2013 Report Posted May 3, 2013 Just another version of the Nigerian scam. Anyone who gets taken by those morons is dumber than they are
flyboy0681 Posted May 3, 2013 Report Posted May 3, 2013 Just another version of the Nigerian scam. Anyone who gets taken by those morons is dumber than they are I have to agree. If (at this period in the history of the Internets) a person is stupid enough to believe that a prince from some forsaken country has died and left them ten million dollars, they deserve to lose the $5k "import fee" that it will take to get their money deposited into their checking account. Don't get me started on the foreign lottery scam. I would like to think that aviators are smart enough to see through this type of scam, but one never knows. 1

231Pilot Posted May 3, 2013 Report Posted May 3, 2013 I think it would bother me that this guy had my tel. number.
harrispa Posted May 3, 2013 Report Posted May 3, 2013 I looked into buying this plane last summer. I found an old ad from a legit broker that had sold it to Paul Krzeminski. The photos and description were the same in both ads. During my research, I found so many things that didn't make sense that I gave up on it. I did get in contact as did Rockydoc1 did with a different story but similar outcome. He wanted to use an escrow agent he knew and wanted all the money sent to that agent before seeing the plane and after I said I couldn't do that I never heard from him again.
NotarPilot Posted May 3, 2013 Report Posted May 3, 2013 Just curious where you saw this plane for sale. Can you tell us the website?
GLLinMO Posted May 6, 2013 Report Posted May 6, 2013 From time to time I have seen a plane for sale in the local St Louis Craigs list that has a very incomplete for a plane that is ebing advertised elsewhere. Ad will have photos. Never a phone number - just need to reply to the Craigslist listing. Usually the price listed seems well below market value. I suspect more people familiar with the current market could spot them for a scam. But it jsut takes one sucker.......
