Mooney1401 Posted March 8, 2013 Report Posted March 8, 2013 I just changed my engine mounts and I am looking for help with the proper configuration with the spacers. I have a 77 J. Quote
N601RX Posted March 8, 2013 Report Posted March 8, 2013 Its when the spinner ends up in the center of the cowl. Its different on each plane. Maxwell has an article on his website giving some suggestions on where to start and how much each washer will move the spinner. Quote
jetdriven Posted March 8, 2013 Report Posted March 8, 2013 We ended up with a thick and a thin washer on the LH lower mount, and the RH lower has two thick ones. Don's article is pretty good. Cut slots in them and drive them in. Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted March 8, 2013 Report Posted March 8, 2013 I try to make the engine fit the cowl, which usually means biasing it to point up. The cowls tend to ride up, so pull it down so it is in its nominal position and then arrange the spacers so the spinner sits straight in the cowl. Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted March 8, 2013 Report Posted March 8, 2013 Wow, two replies during the time it took me to type a response..... Quote

Exactly what I did several years ago, and it worked like a charm! Quote
jetdriven Posted March 8, 2013 Report Posted March 8, 2013 That LASAR cowl fix kit sure ties the cowl down tight. Quote

jetdriven Posted March 8, 2013 Report Posted March 8, 2013 I called up "The Don" last week about this very issue. I spent 30 mins on the phone talking about it. Then I ordered 88$ worth of washers. We centered the engine with 1/16", which is good enough, then I beat Southwest to Austin. Keep that man fed, he is getting skinny last time I saw him Quote
