hello,

I am hopefully buying my first ever sole own aircraft - a 1978 M20J - this weekend (done the prelims - just waiting for the result of the pre-buy) and was hoping to find some UK or European Mooney events to go and meet some likeminded peeps, but everything I seem to have found is states side which whilst i bet a fun trip, is hardly a weekend away.  Anyone know if there any European events and if not - why not and lets make one happen!  I am based in Jersey (EGJJ).

Soon to be fellow Mooniac,

Alun :)

Good luck with the prebuy. I have flown some GA in Europe and enjoyed it, but unfortunately not with a Mooney crowd. Keep looking and please let us know what you find. Have fun!

we are paying about £1 a litre - or $1.50 or €1.20 at the moment.  you have no idea how easy you have it over there.  I have just been quoted £8,000 - $12,000 a year for a slot in the hanger!

That is truly horrifying.  I guess there is some consolation in having one of the most fuel efficient birds out there.  I imagine too that there are way fewer choices on where you can land and fuel up.  My wife and I spent 3 weeks in Europe this summer, visiting my son at Lakenheath RAF, and other relatives in the Czech Republic.  I do recall seeing a few GA planes flying around.

Well at $1.50 per litre that is only $5.67 per US gallon.  Not too horrifying there as I was paying $6.75 here in Hawaii before the price of the barrel freefell - now I pay around $4.18.

Now, the $18 price mentioned is CRAZY!  That would drive me to seek out a new country to live in!

For the record, it didn't vote for the socialist! Yell

The only "change" I want is less taxes and less government.  If my history is not too faulty I think that is what the founders of my nation were escaping from in the first place.

Hi Alun

I fly an M20F , OY-DFD , out of Fairoaks EGTF. I have family in SW France and in Britanny, so my 'usual' weekend run takes me over GSY or JSY... See you around at some point!

sounds great!  are there many other mooney's in the uk.  they don't seem as popular in the uk as in us and germany was the other place where i see there are a few based.  where do you get your maintainance done? would be nice to find a place that is familiar with mooneys!

The AERO, a International Trade Exhibition for GA, is in Friedrichshafen (Lake Constance, Germany) on April 02 - 05. The German Mooney Group (www.mooney.de) wants to make a formation flight from EDTD to EDNY. Meeting point is EDTD on April 03 with briefing and flight training if necessary and the flight will be in the morning on April 04. Mooney.de will handle the slots. Unfortunately their site is in german, here is a translation:

It would be great to get as many Mooneys as possible for the flight.

Hi

The UK is PA28 country... although there are a few Mooneys in the UK, but indeed less so than in Germany and in France (have a look at the stats on www.mooney.de). Maybe because a lot of owners like to use farm strips here in the UK to cut costs, which can get a bit tricky with those gear doors. The place I fly to France a lot is grass, but nice and smooth. My M20F is maintained at Aerotech in Coventry and they are familiar with the type and I am happy with them (the previous owner used them so I stuck with them for now). I also know Shipping & Airlines at Biggin very well , who used to be a Mooney service centre at some point, as well as Falcon Flying Services at Biggin. Both are very familiar with Mooneys and very good. In France , Troyes Aviation is an MSC and obviously very knowledgeable, and my former mechanic in La Rochelle also looks after an M20F, but is sadly not JAR 145 so can't touch the Danish mooney.

Would be interested in your La Rochelle guy. Only a short hop from here and I have friends who live there.  I have an N-reg so not sure if that would affect what he could sign off on?

Hi alun

I fly an M20S from Lelystad (EHLE) in the Netherlands. My plane has been maintained by Rheinland Air Services (RAS) in Monchengladbach who are a Mooney Service Centre. In the UK the service centre is at Biggin Hill, Air Touring.

Let me know if you plan to come this way - I may ping you when I visit Jersey for some of that cheap fuel!

Hi,

I was thinking of flying to Lelystad as I heard its a cheaper way to go to Amsterdam with avoiding the €300 landing fees at Schipol.  How easy it is to get to central Amsterdam?

Thanks,

alun.

Hi Gilles,

Do you know of a Pitts S2A for sale at your airfield?  I was thinking of coming over and having a look at it.
