Tommooney Posted October 14 Report Posted October 14 I am looking for replacement static wicks. I ordered from Spruce and they came 6' long. The originals are 4" long. Suggestions appreciated.

Buckster Posted December 7 Report Posted December 7 Last time I looked for a replacement they were sold out. I took the broken one and used epoxy and then put shrink wrap around it..still holding after 1 1/2 years!

Yes, The carbon core in mine are designed to allow electricity to control the rate of static charge dissipation. If struck by lightning, they provide a path for the massive current to hopefully safety exit the aircrafts structure.

N201MKTurbo Posted December 8 Report Posted December 8 They are designed to dissipate static buildup from P-static. They have nothing to do with lightning protection. 2
N201MKTurbo Posted December 8 Report Posted December 8 You can buy new ones from spruce for $35. They are not certified, but who would know or care. 3

I used the epoxy on the outer perimeter. The epoxy can't be applied between the carbon fibers because the epoxy would act like an insulator and the wick would be considered useless. I did this because at the time I could not find the exact replacement as suppliers were "out of stock"
