Bill E Posted March 14 Report Posted March 14 I have a TKS Stall Strip that has detached from my wing. The last time I had to do this it was due to losing one in flight and the replacement stall strip came with the internal foam. I have the currently detached stall strip and have noticed that the internal foam has solidified. I fear simply reattaching the stall strip as is will prevent deicing fluid from permeating the foam and pushing through the micro holes in the stall strip. I plan to remove the residual (hardened) foam and thoroughly clean the stall strip. Before reinstallation, I need to install the correct deicing fluid distribution foam. Can anyone advise me on what foam product to use? I'm waiting on Cav Ice to reply via their Aftermarket Team, but it is taking a long time for their response. After seeing the inside of this stall strip, I fear the other three are the same and will probably have them removed for inspection and potential internal foam replacement. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Quote

Bill E Posted March 14 Author Report Posted March 14 Thanks. Yeah, I've already contacted CAV Ice but as mentioned in my post, they are taking a long time to reply. I was hoping for someone to direct me to a foam product they think will work inside the stall strips. Thanks, though. Bill Quote
cliffy Posted March 14 Report Posted March 14 As I'm sure you are aware- placement is critical to stall performance of the airplane. Unfortunately I've seen a couple of instances over the years where the stall strips have been removed from Mooneys and never replaced. 1 Quote
Bill E Posted March 15 Author Report Posted March 15 Yes, absolutely. Thanks for your thoughts. I have two on each wing and simply need to reattach one exactly where it came off. If I can get some advice on the internal foam for deicing fluid disbursement, I'll be set. Quote
Fritz1 Posted March 15 Report Posted March 15 CAV is usually pretty good about this stuff, just call all their numbers on Monday, somebody will eventually answer the phone and sell you what you need, I re-glued all of my TKS stall strips 3 years ago since one was about to fall off, used CS tank sealant for glue, takes several cleanings to get TKS panel really dry for gluing, masked with aluminum tape, filled strip with new CAV foam, works fine Quote
Bill E Posted March 15 Author Report Posted March 15 Thanks! I'll pester them some more on Monday. I think that "CAV Foam" may be the product I'm seeking. Also, the CS tank sealant for the glue. Thanks again. Quote

Bill By typing @CAV Ice he was pinging them to alert them on here to respond to you. Just like when I ping @Bill E it alerts you. 2 Quote

Equally worrisome is the fact that they can't be replaced at precisely the right position when the TKS leading edges are installed. Or when they are glued back on, perhaps multiple times, after falling off. Quote
wombat Posted March 16 Report Posted March 16 Does anyone here know what the tolerances are on placement? 1 Quote
cliffy Posted March 17 Report Posted March 17 They were placed and re-placed after factory test flights to perfect stall performance Each airplane was tested individually. Quote
Schllc Posted March 17 Report Posted March 17 It is usually pretty easy to see the lines do where the strip was aligned. I laid a tape line with marks to show me where it was when I cleaned the panel. it’s within 1/8” of where it was prior to removal. The key is to mark it prior to removing the strip, if possible…. Same, but I don’t know how critical the measurements are. Quote
