FlyingDude Posted June 28 Report Posted June 28 Hi, I decided to rephrase my question. What models have factory original glove boxes? What are their dimensions? The depth? What do the covers look like? I've seen a couple online but didn't like them. I hope there were more variations. I have a hole from the old garwin instrument cluster which I might repurpose into a glove box. Thanks. Quote
1967 427 Posted June 30 Report Posted June 30 I suspect that mine glovebox door is not original, but custom made by a previous owner. I believe that it’s in the original location and size. Actually love having it. If you want the exact dimensions I can check next time I am at the hangar. Quote
1967 427 Posted June 30 Report Posted June 30 I forgot the depth is stupid deep. Will tell you exactly when I measure it. Quote

1967 427 Posted July 5 Report Posted July 5 Attached images show dimensions, and I suppose not surprising it is the same width as radios, and the height opening is about 2 inches, but internally is about 2 3/8 and a depth of 10 inches. All felt lined perfect place for op handbook, spare readers, notepad and pen, and spare batteries for the headsets. Love having that all within reach. Hope this helps 1 Quote
LANCECASPER Posted July 5 Report Posted July 5 Jupiter Avionics makes some nice Glove boxes for those who are doing a new panel or pulling out older avionics. https://jupiteravionics.com/productglovebox.php 1 1 Quote
FlyingDude Posted July 5 Author Report Posted July 5 Thanks a lot!!! I made one that goes into the hole freed up from the garwin's 3x4" opening. I could only go in 6" because it's on the edge of the panel and I have a steel structural rod and the curvature of the fuselage on the right side limiting the depth. I had to tilt the front face by 7* to clear the steel beam and gain an extra inch. When the plane sits parked, stuff lie flat. Side and top walls butt against the back of the panel but the bottom wall sits on the hole opening. So the box cannot slide out like avionics. It gets installed from forward of the panel. I painted the inside the same color as the fuselage. The lid is wider than the opening (for esthetics) so it gets screwed on the hinge. My buddy has a laser etch machine so he'll make a design similar to yours after the summer. I showed him your picture. I'll also paint the new lid the exact same color as the panel. 1 Quote
Yetti Posted July 5 Report Posted July 5 y'all need more circuit breakers. Any ways the cat's meow is the pockets that go across the front of the seats. Hold way more stuff and easier to get to. 1 Quote

FlyingDude Posted July 5 Author Report Posted July 5 I have 2 pockets already. One on the pilot side and the other on the spar wall behind the johnson bar. Copilot (wife) said that she doesn't want one on her side rubbing against her legs. "The plane is not roomie as it is." This remark actually chimes with the other thread that demonizes airline travel and exalts Mooney time... However, I am proud of the glovebox. Way better way to make use of the space than a simple panel patch. 3 Quote
