Not my panel but oddly enough my yokes have the exact same corrosion.

see clock in the lower left hand corner, it has a knob at about the 7 o’clock position. The knob is fastened on a threaded shaft. Mine is always coming loose and I’m afraid I’ll loose it. What is the consensus on using purple (low strength) thread lock on it?

Threadlocker is not recommended for plastics. It will cause stress cracks. Mine does not come loose unless one fiddles with it. If yours is I would just throw a little scotch tape on it or place it in a plastic bag, Loctite also has a 425 plastic, I would still be wary of using it as that dial and shaft is very fragile.

It would be odd if your yokes weren't corroded like that. Pretty much all original yokes from the early 80's look like that. By the late 80's they were using enamel paint which worked better but still chipped. Finally sometime in the 90's they covered them with leather up until the M20S (Eagle) in 1999 on which they painted as a cost-savings.

Thank you, that actually makes me feel better. Seriously though, not a smart remark.

Why do the yokes corrode like that?   Are they some kind of magnesium alloy?   The ones in my J are yucky.   I would love to get them leather wrapped someday but that must wait for the right time.
