N601RX Posted March 2, 2012 Report Posted March 2, 2012 I'm interested in starting a repository for Mooney specific field approvals that have approved 337's for them. I would also like to have copies of 337's that were sent in to document STC's, as well as approved flight manual supplements Recently a couple of members shared a few completed 337's with me that saved me considerable time and expense. If anyone has approved 337's and supporting data that they would be willing to make available to the community please e-mail them to me and I will make them available to everyone.
jetdriven Posted March 2, 2012 Report Posted March 2, 2012 awesome idea! It makes it easier to get something field approved for your Mooney. No need to reinvent the wheel.
Lionudakis Posted March 2, 2012 Report Posted March 2, 2012 The new faa doesn't consider a previously approved 337 a basis for approval. You still have to jump through the same hoops with or without an existing 337. I've done close to a dozen in the last 2 years, the last one was a doozie, with a stack of previously approved ones. Not trying to be negetive, but realistic.
jetdriven Posted March 2, 2012 Report Posted March 2, 2012 Do we need a 337 to install a cigarette receptcle in the hat rack? I woul sure enjoy one for my Skyradar box
Lionudakis Posted March 2, 2012 Report Posted March 2, 2012 A local shop (and I) have installed several in various aircraft/locations I've been involved in, using a plug in front of a fuse and stated so in a log entry as a 'temporary removable" installation. (same loophole as a panel mounted handheld). If one was to install it iaw ac43.131b chapter 11, fused accordingly etc; that could be used on a 337 and signed off and approved for return to service, AC43.13 is acceptable data, not really for the ciggy lighter, but for the wiring. protection, and electrical load.
danb35 Posted March 3, 2012 Report Posted March 3, 2012 A power jack isn't a major alteration, so no 337 is needed.

carusoam Posted March 3, 2012 Report Posted March 3, 2012 Byron, Let me know how you install the plug for sky radar. I am interested in the same. What do you do with the antennae. Or do you leave them mounted on the standard sky radar connection points? Best regards, -a-
jetdriven Posted March 5, 2012 Report Posted March 5, 2012 Carousam, currently we have the Skyradar velcro'd to the rear of the copilot headrest and the stock antennas. The cord runs to the cig lighter. GPS antenna sits on the luggage in the rear seat. Depending on your heading and the relative bearing of the ADS-B station, the data is shadowed by the wing. a 90 degree turn fixes that. This situation sucks. The ultimate solution is the Skyradar unit mounted on the rear equipment rack, or perhaps the rer hat rack, ("temporarily" , if needed), 12V power to a cig lighter plug mounted right beside it, and two Comant CI-105 shark fin antennas on the belly for the ADS-B data. If somone can help me with the 337 and the approval, I would be willling to give it all uo for public data to help others. The Skyradar is a wonderful unit, but antennas over the wing and just above the window line cripple it.
