201er Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 Someone pointed out to me that my nosewheel has been rubbing inside the gear bay. You can see a bit of paint off inside and a rub mark on the outer most part of the wheel side. I don't think this happened before. I had just inflated the nosewheel to 50psi. Would keeping it at a lower psi solve this issue? Is it a matter of rigging? Or does the tire need to be changed? It's a Custom Flight III btw. Quote
MooneyMitch Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 Don Maxwell does not recommend using Flight Custom III's for this very reason. With that said, I've been using the FCIII for 3 years and have never had this happen. Quote
jetdriven Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 We installed a goodyear flight special II for that reason. Quote
201er Posted January 31, 2012 Author Report Posted January 31, 2012 Mine came with the FCIII so it seemed ok. I wonder if it was a bad landing or over inflation that caused it to start rubbing. Quote
pjsny78 Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 Mike, This is a known problem with the customIII on the nose wheel. There are actually a few articles about it online. I have customIII on the mains and flight special II goodyear on the nose for this same problem. Quote
MooneyMitch Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 Just my opinion, but possbily rubbing the nose truss could actually be from under inflation of the tire and that could possibly happen with any nose tire. We do have a Flight Special installed on the E model and really, there does not appear to be much difference in the clearance between that and the FCIII on my plane. I did measure both distances a few months ago when this issue came up on MooneySpace, but I don't recall the exact dimensions. Hmmm, think I'll measure again. Quote
