I need to get a Tail Cone Cover for my M20G. Apparently the birds had some fun building a nest where I couldn't see it during preflight.

Anyone got an old one they wouldn't mind parting with, I am mainly looking for something to pattern off from.

If you are a CB…

The leftover piece of rug from the rug upgrade worked pretty well for a decade for my M20C…

Birds love the gap… they can build the nest in hours, and have chirping birds within a week…. (Starlings of NJ)

If you have a few extra dollars… Bruce’s covers has options for the tail…

My M20C came with a piece of foam stuffed in the tail…

Either way…. Use something soft, so if it somehow gets forgotten… it doesn’t cause a control problem…

PP thoughts only, not a perma CB…

Best regards,

Certainly the Bruce’s cover would be the Gold standard.  I have a Bruces’ canopy cover and it’s great.  For the tail, my solution (in comparison to Bruce’s) is crude.  But, I think it’s effective enough for those RONs where I’m parked out on the ramp.  Do you know anyone who can sew?  I patterned it out (to fit my short rudder) in blue tape and brown paper grocery sacks, albeit with trial and error, but I think the end result is effective enough to discourage bird’s nesting.  I used some Sunbrella material from an old patio umbrella.  Bonus, it matches my spinner, cowl inlet, and pitot tube covers.

I’ve used pieces of old convoluted mattress foam to stuff into the big gaps.  Works fine, weighs nothing and doesn’t take up space.  Sure looks CB on the ramp though.
