Hello all! Does anyone have any experience with issues with the flap and trim indicator in an early C?   Both cables seem to be installed correctly and are fully present.  Other than that, I’m not sure what to check.

Any tips out there for easy things to check? Both indicators seem to indicate a muchhh lower value than actual value. Both indicators show a level under (lower) than the actual scale. I can take some pictures or videos if that would be helpful.

Thanks! JA

They are both just push pull Bowden cables. One runs from the trim wheel gear box and the other runs from the flap torque tube between the flaps. There were a couple of different indicators on the nose gear cover. These cables get neglected and most haven’t been lubed since the plane left the factory.

I found that the carpet pile was interfering with the movement of the indicators.  I trimmed the pile back and that helped.  I also had a splice in the flap indicator wire, right where it enters the housing.  It must have work-hardened and broke, so someone spliced it?  It makes a pretty sharp corner exiting the floor.  The cable housing was in two pieces, too.  Hmmm.  I measured the wire thickness and replaced it with a single length from McMaster.  The ring terminal was crimped and soldered on the end of new wire.  I secured the short section of cable housing to the cover with a clamp.  Works much better.

I though the indicator wire attachment at the flap actuator was rinky-dink.  I copied someone’s attachment I saw on MS when I had it apart to accomplish the stub spar beef up service bulletin.  McMaster has the threaded stand-offs.  All I had to do was measure and drill the hole for the indicator wire to pass through.  Now I can remove the actuator without removing the clamps that secure the Bowden cable.

Aerographics has the decal, mine was really beat up.  While you’re in there, might as well do it all.
