This morning the air was stable and weren’t many planes flying so I requested a low approach into Miami International.  I tried this last week but was told that they didn’t want any low approaches and I would be charged a landing fee (even though I wasn’t landing).  I nearly did it just to make the airport authority mail me a bill for $24 but the weather wasn’t great anyway.

They were a lot more accommodating this morning (and didn’t try to scare me with a landing fee) and it was approved!

It was a fun experience!

I was just out at the hangar and a friend who worked for AA as a mechanic, was offered early retirement and 1/2 years salary as a bonus. He took it. He is flying his Cherokee Six over to KPHX, to the AA maintenance hangar to turn in his badge. Just about now...

Just a guess...

The tower is counting operations that they handle...

More ops, the busier they appear to be... better for their long term employment status...

If ops are only counted by using revenue... they are going to want to see the $24.... just for the count....

Looks like somebody found a better way to get the count without needing to get the money.

Great Mooney Over Miami pics! :)

PP thoughts only...

Best regards,

On a side note, I looked up the fees at Miami and some of them are pretty laughable.  The landing fees are what you would expect (besides them rating a Mooney at 15,000 lbs) but the other ones seem like they are pretty well aimed at limiting AA's competition.

I’ve flown into MIA a number of times. The airport fees aren’t bad, but Signature should be evicted from doing business in the USA. They charge us tolls for traveling from point to point in airports that are paid for by tax dollars, and the money goes to London. When it was Landmark just a few years ago, overnights were $10. Now they charge you $15 for a half day plus about $45 in other handling fees and bullshit.
