Bose Headset Interface Module - Purpose?

So my M20K has Lemo powered plugs in the front panel, and these, mounted overhead. I have tried everything short of calling Bose to inquire about them. Best I can ascertain, this is an Airbus style connector, but for what purpose? How could I tell if they still work? Appreciate any information you might have!

Those look like the control boxes for the Bose first gen headset sold in the late 80’s.  I’d just leave them alone as it would be a lot of work to rip them out and repair the headliner.

This is what the old Series 1 plug looks like. Bose updated their plug to a smaller 6 pin Leno plug around 1996.

 

since all all of the wires are up there, and avionics shop maybe be able to use those wires for a new 6 pin interface. The purpose of course was so that your headset could run on ships power rather than batteries.

With problems like that, my advice would be an immediate search of Controller.com for a later model aircraft.

Plan B might be to search E-Bay for an older headset and just toss those new fangled Bose A-20 headsets.

As for repairs and changes, good luck with contacting an avionics shop.  When I make a personal appearance, they explain they are just too busy to return phone calls

and continually complain about Garmin changing their distribution warehouse before 2020, thus unable to receive installation parts in a timely manner.

My upgrade has been in shop since 5/30/19 (G3X, G5, Gfc500) and projected finish time is 9/19/19.

Have been told, not to complain as I am one of the lucky ones.

As Lancecasper suggests,  you can buy a pair of LEMO jacks and replace the old style Bose connectors.  It is a simple swap as the wiring already has been routed.

I’m assuming that these two overhead connectors are for the rear seat passengers’ headsets.
