OK, all you going to Oshkosh, please take a look-see at the new stuff and let us know what you think...several developments today are interesting....

1) New KSN770 video out a couple hours ago, with a completely new bezel and touch screen, obvious to see Aspen's influence:

Price is $12,995 within spitting distance of G650...if it has passed the vaporware stage. We shall see.....

2) Garmin is probably going to introduce another high-end handheld... or a Foreflight/WingX/Bad Elf killer for Ipad? The Garmin 696 price was just dropped $800....

3) Look for an Avidyne DFC-90 autopilot retrofit for Aspen/Stec (servo) equipped airplanes, not just the Entegra legacy airplanes....

It does have a much larger screen than the 650 for roughly the same price, but I think their long delay and promise of deliveries over three years ago left a bad taste in peoples mouths.

I think they missed the boat and could have had good market penetration by now as it could have been a viable alternative to the 530/W.

Look at the date on this article:

See number three in my original post, looks like a go!

Avidyne is definitely moving forward on the DFC-90 autopilot talking to an Aspen PFD....see here:

For new installs for our Mooneys I see the path as: Aspen PFD, one WAAS navigator, S-tec servos and the DFC-90 autopilot.

If anyone is at Oshkosh could they swing by the Avidyne booth and ask them if there will be a path to go direct to a DFC-90 without having to uninstall an S-tec 55x panel box first....

Also, could someone stop by the Emagair (electronic ignition) booth as OSH and check progress on the STC'ed electronic ignition plug 'n' play for dual mags? Don't know if this product is out yet, but it has been rumored for awhile...

Avidyne announced a GPS Navigator that looks interesting. The IFD540 looks like a competitor to the GTN750, but availability isn't expected until the second half of 2012.

Has anyone visited the Aspen booth? Is there any news about an engine monitor?

Avidyne knocks it out of the park on the DFC-90 autopilot retrofit! It supports lots of different servos, not just S-tec's!! Initially for the Bonanza...

Lots of info, here: http://www.avidyne.com/landing/dfc90/index.asp

Now then, somehow we need to convince them there is a big enough market in Aspen-modded Mooneys to support us next. And there needs to be a path for folks upgrading from Brittain autopilots......

And now your Aspen will talk to your Ipad, and lots more: http://www.connectedpanel.com

A good Oshkosh for product announcements, anyway.

I pulled the attached photo out of the AVweb video on the Aspen connected panel. The significance to me is the engine monitor displayed on the Aspen panel. Elsewhere in the connected panel documentation JPI is listed as partner.

The plane I have in pre-buy right now doesn't have an engine monitor...

Edit: didn't hit attach

No news out yet on the engine monitor but we'll see very soon.  The instrumentation looks like a 730/830, so if it's essentially a 730/830 with a remote display then I doubt it's a replacement.

I would bet against a stand alone replacement because if it's a stand alone replacement I believe the minimum instrumentation would always need to be displayed on the screen.  That would cut down on Aspen screen real estate significantly, not to mention it eliminates the possiblity of operating a 2nd aspen panel in reversionary mode.

So is it a standalone replacement for engine gauges??
