PTK Posted July 20, 2011 Report Posted July 20, 2011 About a month ago I heard or read somewhere, and for the life of me I cannot find it, that G is coming out with a PFD only unit to complement the GTN750. Has anybody else ran across such info?? I don't know if it's wishful thinking on the part of some author or reality. Quote
Parker_Woodruff Posted July 20, 2011 Report Posted July 20, 2011 You were the first/only person I heard it from... Quote

M016576 Posted July 20, 2011 Report Posted July 20, 2011 I read this rumor as well, either in an AOPA magazine or a copy of Plane & Pilot, can't remember which. I would imagine they are coming out with a TSO'ed version of the GDU 375... which would be awesome (IMO).... would compliment a GTN750 VERY well.... Here's a link to the GDU 375 www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/avpages/gdu375.php Quote

M016576 Posted July 21, 2011 Report Posted July 21, 2011 looks pretty sweet... hope they do TSO it, then price it competatively with the Aspen single PFD (pro pilot model). Should benifit the consumers (I hope!)! Quote

FloridaMan Posted July 21, 2011 Report Posted July 21, 2011 Looks like Garmin bought another company. Quote
danb35 Posted July 21, 2011 Report Posted July 21, 2011 Quote: allsmiles I'm sure this is exactly what's coming. G will perfect it or another box to complement the 750, TSO it and so long Aspen ! Quote
Parker_Woodruff Posted July 21, 2011 Report Posted July 21, 2011 Quote: danb35 Seriously, when did Aspen whiz in your cornflakes? You've had nothing but nasty things to say about them, even though (IIRC) you've never used their products. The only complaint you've ever stated is that you've heard anecdotes of failures of the system. As a doctor, you should be enough of a scientist to know that the plural of anecdote is not data. And, of course, it remains telling that Garmin was the devil himself until they released the GTN boxes, at least from reading your posts. In any event, if anything, it's been Aspen who's been putting pressure on Garmin. Quote
PTK Posted July 21, 2011 Author Report Posted July 21, 2011 Did I say something wrong?! I'm simply making an observation and stating my opinion as I see it now. You should know that avionics technology especially, is very fluid. Things change from one moment to the next. And if you do carefully read my posts you will see that I have said many times that my opinion changes and I favor whomever delivers. I haven't said anything nasty about Aspen ! On the contrary I have said that they try very hard to their credit. They do a good job. They are just not at the level of Garmin. They are at a different level. This is what I have said. Garmin consistently has proven and delivered in a big way. You are right I have never used any Aspen products. Just as I never would install the G 4/530's. But I do alot of research and I do have an opinion. And for your information, I don't really find from talking to installers that Aspen has made a dent to G. Aspen needs Garmin. Actually what I hear is that when the G500 came out Aspen dropped precipitously. This doesn't mean that Aspen is bad it's just the nature of the beast. Garmin owns avery aspect of the GA arena. Why do you care so much about what I have to say anyway. You don't need to agree ! Chill out!! Quote

DaV8or Posted July 21, 2011 Report Posted July 21, 2011 Quote: fantom and without innovators like Aspen, Garmin products would be more expensive and they wouldn't be coming out with rival offerings IMO. Quote
PTK Posted July 21, 2011 Author Report Posted July 21, 2011 Look who the wind blew in ! If it isn't Fantom! You took the bait didn't you Fantom ?! You have some strong opinions on these "unnecessary upgrades" don't you ? Quote
danb35 Posted July 21, 2011 Report Posted July 21, 2011 Quote: allsmiles You are kidding right?! I don't see how the iPad or Aspen for that matter is squeezing Garmin ! Quote
PTK Posted July 21, 2011 Author Report Posted July 21, 2011 Quote: fantom Did you ever notice that ;-) Quote
PTK Posted July 21, 2011 Author Report Posted July 21, 2011 Quote: N4352H I'm not cerain I follow your logic. Although anything can fail I guess, you're right. With G it's a matter of IF it fails. I'm afraid with Aspen it's a matter of WHEN it fails. And I mean this very seriously. I don't want the feeling over me that this box is going to fail at any moment. It defeats every purpose of having it. It's a matter of personal confidence and preference. I'm sure it's a good product. I have yet to hear of a G box failing. And there are a lot more G boxes flying than Aspen. I hope it doesn't but what will you be picking when your Aspen fails ? And the 750 is breakthrough technology precisely because ease of use and great logic. Quote
alex Posted July 21, 2011 Report Posted July 21, 2011 Quote: N4352H Btw (while I am on a roll), the 750 is not a break through technolgy either. Great logic and ease of use, but at the end of the day,,,,,,,a phone-fax-scanner-printer. If it goes out, you'll be picking your nose. Quote
