Are you talking about ADS-B out? I am installing Dynon’s Mode S transponder that will read it’s position from GPS

Yes, ADS-B out is accomplished by Mode S ES (or 978 UAT in the USA).

requires a transponder antenna on top of the airplane.  

Diversity transponders have two transponder antennas, top and bottom.
