RobertGary1 Posted October 26, 2018 Report Posted October 26, 2018 I was really expecting to see some type of metal from a factory new engine break in. But there was absolutely nothing. My IA says he’s never seen anything on the pick up screen. -Robert Quote

Nor have I, but my neighbor who does RV condition inspections and religiously pulls that screen has found them full of metal. Just too great a risk not to pull the screens on a periodic basis. Makes one wonder why Mooney made them so inaccessible! Quote
nels Posted October 26, 2018 Report Posted October 26, 2018 What is involved in pulling the screen? Quote

Piloto Posted October 26, 2018 Report Posted October 26, 2018 I just cut open the oil filter and check the paper element. It can trap smaller particles. José Quote

If I remember right their filter was clean? Quote
RobertGary1 Posted October 27, 2018 Author Report Posted October 27, 2018 When my engine failed the entire pan and screen were filled with corn flakes and really not much in the filter. Not sure how a savable situation would vary from my catastrophic failure. Robert Quote
ArtVandelay Posted October 27, 2018 Report Posted October 27, 2018 I strain the drained oil through a screen to check for larger pieces. Screen only at annual. Quote
rbridges Posted October 27, 2018 Report Posted October 27, 2018 I feel stupid. Where is the pickup screen on a C model? Quote
