BigD Posted May 6, 2018 Report Posted May 6, 2018 I’m a bit wary of pulling out the old air filter. I’m afraid of bending or breaking the metal bracket. Any suggestions? The metal frame seems fragile, I’d hate to damage it
BKlott Posted May 6, 2018 Report Posted May 6, 2018 Best to check with your IA and ask him to show you how to do it. Some IAs prefer to do that themselves during your Annual Inspection and don’t want us hamfisted Pilots fooling around with our airplanes. 1
Wildhorsesracing Posted May 6, 2018 Report Posted May 6, 2018 Mine has a pin at the top, pull the pin, move the wire frame out a little and yank the foam out. It doesn't take much space to slide the filter out and the new one back in.

A new assembly costs just under $100. So does it slide out sideways? Thanks!
Wildhorsesracing Posted May 6, 2018 Report Posted May 6, 2018 You can "squish" the new foam and slide it back in, the wire frame is pretty sturdy. 1
carusoam Posted May 6, 2018 Report Posted May 6, 2018 Combine this with an oil change... hire your mechanic to show you how... anything mechanical that is 50years old has the tendency to have some weakness in it somewhere... It is great to build a working relationship with a mechanic. Stuff breaks, or gets cross threaded, or has been substituted improperly, or.... Best regards, -a-
Guest Posted May 6, 2018 Report Posted May 6, 2018 You should make sure that you are doing the filter gasket inspection or have a BA6110 Rev. C filter assembly installed. Clarence
