FlyDave Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 George, I saw the picture you posted of the F-18 in front of Mt. Fuji 1 hour before the earthquake. I hope you and yours are OK and you squadron is without damage. Were you on the ground (or a carrier??) when the earthquake hit? I saw pictures in the media of US military personnel surveying from the air - and I'm sure helping on the ground. Are you guys helping with the ground efforts? Take care, Dave Quote
GeorgePerry Posted March 20, 2011 Report Posted March 20, 2011 thanks for the note...Yep it's a crazy time right now in Japan. All US military and dependents are in the midst of an evacuation. The earthquake and Tsunami didn't really affect us too bad to but the Fukushima issues are troublesome. Quote
mooneygirl Posted March 20, 2011 Report Posted March 20, 2011 Take good care George. All of us are thinking about you, your family and all affected by the earthquake. Quote
GeorgePerry Posted April 3, 2011 Report Posted April 3, 2011 I wanted to send you all the Mooniacs out there a quick hello and give you the latest update on the Japan (multiple disasters) saga. Lots of unknowns right now and everything is in limbo. The Japan government doesn't seem to be making any real progress with the reactor mess as far as I can tell. They on are slow boil mode and I'm just hoping that it does not get worse. Because of the ongoing Humanitarian effort the Navy is assisting with, all fighter aircraft and support personnel had to evacuate our base in Japan to make ramp space for transports, helo's and relief supplies. The entire airwing and all it's support personnel basically completed a no-notice homeport change in allitle over a week. On the bright side, I can never talk bad about the Air Force again. The AF dudes at Andersen AFB in Guam are phenomenal! I couldn't have asked for better support or more gracious hosts. Most of my Sailors are taking this in stride...Although plenty of them are worried about families (all back in the states now, thank goodnes) and if they'll ever see their stuff again. All things considered Moral is pretty high. The young men and woman that serve our country really are an amazing group of folks. Since we are the "911" Airwing we've already resumed normal training flights here at Andersen AFB Guam. The flying here is a HOOT! even though I still miss my Mooney. When not flying, I'm constantly bombarded with issues and questions stemming from the fallout of the Japan earthquake disaster (pun intended). Hopefully this all gets resolved so my displaced Officers and Sailors can reunite with their families soon. That's it for now. Hope everyone in the US is enjoying the spring time weather. My prayers go out to folks at S&F Quote
KSMooniac Posted April 3, 2011 Report Posted April 3, 2011 Thanks for the update George! That sounds like quite an experience. Any chance you'll "have" to play a lot of golf since you're now on an AFB? Take care. Quote
Skywarrior Posted April 3, 2011 Report Posted April 3, 2011 George - Be sure you get down to King's restaurant in Tamuning for some eggs and fried rice with chorizo sausage. Chuck M. Quote
fantom Posted April 4, 2011 Report Posted April 4, 2011 Keep the faith, George. The USAF will take good care of you, your guys, and their families. All of our military is an amazing wonderful family! Quote
FlyDave Posted April 4, 2011 Author Report Posted April 4, 2011 George, I'm glad you and your family were not directly affected and the airwing is enjoying your new airspace! Take care and keep us posted, Quote
