Tommy Posted July 21, 2017 Report Posted July 21, 2017 Lately I have noticed my KR-87 ADF *gasps - what the heck is NDB?!* is playing up a bit. It's now spins around haphazardly as if it's hunting the station (I tried various stations but getting the same result). No issue listening to the mose code and it points to right wing when it's in ANF mode (normal). Resetting it with CB didn't do anything. Wonder what would cause this? It was working fine two months ago. I know it's an old technology but it's still part of commercial syllabus here in Australia Quote

I would make sure everything is grounded properly. Also I seem to recall my ADF days pulling the unit from the rack and reseating it to solve sensing problems. Tommy Posted July 21, 2017 Author Report Posted July 21, 2017 I have a combined antenna at the belly. Yes that will be my next step - reseat it after give the contacts a bit of clean! Quote

Tommy Posted July 22, 2017 Author Report Posted July 22, 2017 I have got two antennae under the belly, how do you tell which one is for ADF? 2 minutes ago, Piloto said: Clean also the contacts at the antenna connector. José Quote

DVA Posted July 22, 2017 Report Posted July 22, 2017 Tune the ADF to a quiet frequency and turn up the volume. Go to the two antennas with a small fluorescent trouble lamp. Please it next to the antenna and listen for buzzing. You found it. 2 Quote
Tommy Posted July 23, 2017 Author Report Posted July 23, 2017 I tried reseating it today. No luck. Going to clean the antenna instead! I used to but now I can't pick up the AM radio stations unless I press BFO and turn the volume right up and even then it's very faint. Does it point to an antenna problem? Quote
