gsengle Posted June 22, 2017 Report Posted June 22, 2017 My 1996 Mooney has pretty good paint. But in the white areas could use a lot of touch up. Especially around inspection plates, a few spots on control surfaces, and around the windshield. Do paint shops do touch ups like this, anyone have any experience with less than full paint jobs? ArtVandelay Posted June 22, 2017 Report Posted June 22, 2017 When I removed my ram air I had the local paint shop repair the hole and paint it, they can match the paint exactly. Your biggest problem with be getting it done, small jobs, small $, don't get high priority. 1 Quote
KSMooniac Posted June 22, 2017 Report Posted June 22, 2017 I'd look for a local freelance painter that could work in your hangar. A big shop likely won't want to tie up their space for touch up work unless you pay a lot, or unless they don't have other work scheduled. It should be easy work for just about any painter.Sent from my LG-US996 using Tapatalk Quote

KSMooniac Posted June 22, 2017 Report Posted June 22, 2017 Perhaps Craigslist, or maybe a motorcycle group or classic car group...those guys will know who can paint. I found a laid off production motorcycle painter/airbrush artist to paint the Mooney logo on my tail in my hangar. He did a great job. You don't need a paint booth for touch up work if some care is taken.Sent from my LG-US996 using Tapatalk Quote

KSMooniac Posted June 22, 2017 Report Posted June 22, 2017 You probably should log it, but I wouldn't see much of an issue if the hangar fairies fixed it. Just make sure to use the same paint system. The single stage system likely used should be easy to touch up and blend in by a good painter. Far easier than base/clear.Sent from my LG-US996 using Tapatalk Quote
neilpilot Posted June 22, 2017 Report Posted June 22, 2017 The shop that has done my annuals for years did a paint touchup after we bought our current M20C. They did it while we were in for annual, did a fine job and at minimal cost. AFAIK they don't operate a "paint shop". Quote
Danb Posted June 22, 2017 Report Posted June 22, 2017 Gregg I also would like a quality touchup, mine looks similar to yours I saw your in NH last yr., Dorne at Weber's told me they could touch it up, does anyone know of Weber's touch up work, 1 Quote
RLCarter Posted June 22, 2017 Report Posted June 22, 2017 Make sure if you get someone outside of the aviation industry that they understand the process fo prepping aluminum and corrosion treatment if needed 1 Quote
