Thinking about replacing my Insight 602 with a G1 or G2. Have had some people say don't do it and go JPI. I like the basic display on the G1 that shows all temps at the same time not to mention it's a slide in replacement for my 602. Anyone have a video with it in action?

There are many Insight users here as well as EI users.

I have an old JPI that works as expected.

It is really cool to have all your primary engine data in the IP, right in front of you.

use caution with the slide in replacement theory.  The newer boxes may be shorter than the older boxes.  This may be a challenge for the existing wires to reach the new box.  Somebody here ran into that challenge...

Joe,

I did the exact same thing you propose a few months ago and upgraded to the G1. It's mostly plug and play with a slight harness modification but nothing that takes more than a few minutes. We did have issues with the length of the new box versus the old one as the new one is shorter.  For an entry level monitor, the G1 is great compared to say an EDM 700. It's a full color screen with text and bar graphs for each CHT and EGT rather than a scrolling data readout. If your looking for a simple upgrade, go with Insight. I will eventually get an EDM 900 at some point.

As a PIREP, I am sending my G1 to get repaired as the screen goes blank on longer flights...

I like the G1 it replaced my 602. I really like the numbers from peak that it lists. No video but I'll try to find a picture.

No regrets. I used all the existing wiring. It was less than $800 at the time for just the head unit. They offer a nice discount to IA's so hopefully your IA can pass it along. Good Company that I think wants to play ball with the others. I've used it for maybe 110hrs.

G3 has been flawles for function since install/upgrade from a GEM 602.  I value the primary Cylinder Temp and Exhaust and the redundancy to my individual digital EI for tach/MP/Volts/Oil Temp/fuel flow.  Removed old temp gauge with the unit install.  Small enough to fit left of 8-pack.  Lean set feature is easy.  I have zero desire to "upgrade" to a flat screen panel space hog.  Love the G3.
