RJBrown Posted August 12, 2010 Report Posted August 12, 2010 It took my a year and a half to find the perfect plane to take me through retirement. A 1990 Mooney Special Edition M-20J. Don't get me wrong the J is everything it is supposed to be. On paper it is still the best plane out there, But to quote Ken Reed "Once you've had a turbo, it is really hard to go back. I haven't been able to " I fly over too many rocks and I miss the Rocket. I just bought a home site on Pegasus in Phoenix and I will end up flying Colorado,Arizona and Utah mostly, too many 16500' MEAs not to have a turbo . I looked at a Rocket in Iowa last weekend and would have traded if possible. Too bad the dealer did not own it as they had represented. I am looking to sell, trade, something. Plane is low time 1750 tt af & engine. And is an unmolested original in great shape. I had the prior owner do an annual at our Mooney Service Center Arapahoe Aero before I bought it and then I used them again in May. Ready to go every thing works airplane. Quote
Parker_Woodruff Posted August 12, 2010 Report Posted August 12, 2010 I took off in my M20J at something like 2865 lbs this weekend at 106 dF. lucky to get 600' in the climb...yup...those turbos are sweet. Maybe someday. Quote
LFOD Posted August 13, 2010 Report Posted August 13, 2010 I took a test flight in a rocket after I bought my J. It was a mistake. Not knowing is much better. Quote

jax88 Posted August 13, 2010 Report Posted August 13, 2010 Add me to the list. Less than 6 months into owning my F and I'm ready for something faster. Quote
Parker_Woodruff Posted August 13, 2010 Report Posted August 13, 2010 Quote: Mcstealth Come on Parker, jump on board. May as well have one of the nicest AND fastest 201's on the planet. Get on board with the TN group!!!! :) Quote
KSMooniac Posted August 13, 2010 Report Posted August 13, 2010 Randy, look up jasonwojo from this site...he currently has TWO Rockets and is always interested in deals. Quote
Skywarrior Posted August 13, 2010 Report Posted August 13, 2010 Randy - All American Aircraft currently has two Rockets for sale. Chuck M. Quote
jax88 Posted August 13, 2010 Report Posted August 13, 2010 Yes, and if I walk to the top of the hill, I can see their hangar. The thought of it is driving me nuts! Quote
Stefanovm Posted August 14, 2010 Report Posted August 14, 2010 I wanted one too. I just could not figure out how to afford one. I appreciate my E, that I could afford versus the Js I was looking at. If money was no object a Rocket would be in my hanger. I still want one and have never flown one. I would probably hock everything I have if I did fly one and it came near to being the same as it looks on paper to me. However, I can still let my current less than 100 mile trip missions keep me from looking too hard, making a flight less likely. I am probably safe until I retire. The retirement work I am planning an for which I am currently training may make a Rocket possible and mission necessary. Quote
RJBrown Posted August 14, 2010 Author Report Posted August 14, 2010 There are Rockets out there, that isn't the concern. Finding a new home for N1079V is the first step. Right now there are quite a few Rockets listed. Some are priced in another economy. The one I looked at last week has been for sale for over 2 years and though it appears to be a nice plane I can see why it wont sell. The salesman had told me that they owned it, taken in trade on a Malibu Prop Jet. Their lie led me to believe a trade was possible. In reality it is still owned by the Dr. who bought the Prop Jet and his ego wont let go of it at today's prices. Quote
KSMooniac Posted August 14, 2010 Report Posted August 14, 2010 Randy, you might see about horse-trading with Jason...he had a J that got totaled due to hail before he bought Rocket #1. He might entertain the thought. Quote
