jkhirsch Posted January 22, 2015 Report Posted January 22, 2015 If anyone two or I guess even one inspection panel, let me know. Also if anyone has a step fairing, or the specs to fab one please let me know. Color doesn't matter on either case. Quote
Skypylott Posted January 22, 2015 Report Posted January 22, 2015 Call Lake Aero Styling in California the should have what you need. Quote
N601RX Posted January 22, 2015 Report Posted January 22, 2015 I'm in need of a step fairing also. Perhaps someone could trace theirs on paper and Scan on 1:1 scale and post? Which inspection panels do you need? I have a few extras I can send you. Quote
jkhirsch Posted January 22, 2015 Author Report Posted January 22, 2015 The ones for under the wing, prior to this post I was assuming, now I am asking, are they all the same size? Quote
N601RX Posted January 22, 2015 Report Posted January 22, 2015 I believe the ones the wing are all the same size except for the ones under the fuel tanks. What year is your plane, some years have a lip on them and fit flush, other are just flat. Quote
jkhirsch Posted January 22, 2015 Author Report Posted January 22, 2015 67, I believe I've seen one of mine and they are just flat pieces of metal. Quote
carusoam Posted January 22, 2015 Report Posted January 22, 2015 My 65C parts manual indicates pairs of inspection panel covers of two different sizes/shapes Applies to C,D,E, and F... A third shape/size is nearest the wheels... Old fuzzy memory tells me they have a slight shape to aid with fitting flush in the hole... Worth checking the details before going too far... Best regards, -a- Quote
N601RX Posted January 22, 2015 Report Posted January 22, 2015 Here is one from my 67F. The unpainted area around the edge is stamped to form a lip so the painted part sets flush with the wing skin. At some point Mooney switched to a flat style with no lip. Quote
Marauder Posted January 22, 2015 Report Posted January 22, 2015 I'm in need of a step fairing also. Perhaps someone could trace theirs on paper and Scan on 1:1 scale and post? carusoam Posted January 22, 2015 Report Posted January 22, 2015 The moving step has a piece of sheet metal on the bottom to close the hole while the step is up... It can get beat up by a mis-step on the top... -a- Quote
N601RX Posted January 22, 2015 Report Posted January 22, 2015 Where does that fairing go? In the hole if your step was removed? Its a piece of aluminum that is attached to the bottom of the step that smooths everything up when the step is retracted. My plane was repainted several years ago without it being present and I never knew it exist until the **** FAA thread. Once I looked I could see two small mounting holes in the bottom of the step. 1 Quote
jkhirsch Posted January 22, 2015 Author Report Posted January 22, 2015 You're dead right on the inspection panel, it is a flat piece of metal, with a slight lip. These are under-wing panels I'm looking for. Quote
N601RX Posted January 22, 2015 Report Posted January 22, 2015 Send me a pm with your address and I'll send you 2 of them. Quote
isaacpr7 Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 I belive I have two that I purchased by mistake. I'll dig around and let you know. Quote
isaacpr7 Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 I found them but not sure it's what you need. Quote
jkhirsch Posted February 2, 2015 Author Report Posted February 2, 2015 Thanks for the help here, I got two panels. Quote
jkhirsch Posted February 3, 2015 Author Report Posted February 3, 2015 I think the gentleman from LASAR thought I was stupid when I asked about the spec drawings for the under-step fairing. Instead I had to cough up $72 bucks for it. Quote
carusoam Posted February 4, 2015 Report Posted February 4, 2015 JK, I really like you. But, I think you might be missing how some businesses work. That guy sells parts for a living. He does not own the drawing you are asking for. It is not his to give to anyone. Even if he wanted to be friendly, he is not allowed to give a drawing that he doesn't own... Fortunately, you have access to parts that are commercially available. If there were no Mooney company.... Over time, the drawings may be released to the world to support the fleet. That hasn't happened for Mooney for the majority of the things they still produce.... Some standard items they purchase. A good CB can find some things a reduced rate. Know what I mean? Best regards, -a- Quote

jkhirsch Posted February 4, 2015 Author Report Posted February 4, 2015 I understand, but based on comments made around MS, I was lead to believe that others had contacted LASAR and received some mythical "drawings" from them. I was mostly a little underencouraged by the 72 dollar handle on what I assume is somewhere around a 6"x4" piece of aluminum. I having the part shipped directly to my mechanic, I may ask him to make some drawings, or when I get the plane back I'll see what I can rig up. 1 Quote
