New FBO: Mooney Ambassador Michael Golden... Whoops, sorry.  This should have been posted under Miscellaneous Aviation Talk

The famous Nut Tree Airport, in beautiful Solano County, is located midway between San Francisco and Sacramento, California.  Located in Vacaville, California, the Nut Tree Airport boasts a moderate Mediterranean climate with dry, warm summers and moderate winters.

The expanded 4,700 foot runway at Nut Tree Airport accommodates everything from light aircraft to corporate jets. The Airport's onsite fixed base operators offer aircraft rentals, sales, flight lessons, pilot training, and aircraft/helicopter maintenance or repair.

Normal operations, maintenance, hangar and office rentals, along with tie-down and fuel services are available.

If you're looking for one of the greatest locations for a $100 hamburger, Nut Tree Airport is the place.  Benefitting from great weather, most every day at Nut Tree Airport is VFR.  You can walk across the pedestrian bridge to the south of the fuel island for access to great dining options including Amici's http://www.amicis.com/ and Fenton's http://www.fentonscreamery.com/  Rubio's has a restaurant there also, but we haven't checked out their food yet.

If you're willing to walk a bit further, one of the largest factory outlet centers in Northern California is located just on the other side of I-80 from the Nut Tree Village.  Highlights include Nike, Gucci, Polo-Ralph Lauren, Reebok, Coach, and Burberry.  One of the best restaurants around can be found just north of the outlet center.  The Black Oak Restaurant is the last of the original Nut Tree dining establishments.  It is an institution unto itself.  When you walk over the highway, turn left, and the Black Oak is down on your right.

The FBO currently has rental cars available through Hertz.  Both full service & self service fueling are provided by the FBO.  The FBO has been remodeled, and has a pilot lounge with flight planning, high speed internet access, complimentary beverage service to patrons, and maintenance available to the flying public.  There is also hangar space available for nightly, weekly, or monthly rentals.  Tie-Downs are plentiful, and there is also a very nice picnic area on the lawn just north of the FBO.

ATC is provided through Travis Approach on 128.4.  CTAF/Unicom is 122.7.  AWOS is 134.75.  Winds generally favor runway 20, but sometimes shift to favor runway 2.  20 is right traffic.  Use your radio as there is significant air traffic at and around Nut Tree Airport.

This is fun information I received:

In addition to all of the other stuff you mentioned, there's an unofficial Nut Tree Airport Museum run
by a fellow named Duncan Miller out of his five hangars. There's a number of
warbirds, a couple of larger airplanes outside, and a huge amount of
memorabilia. No admission, not even to cover the soda and donuts he offers.
"Open" Sundays 12:30pm-late afternoon, call (707) 446-1824 to make sure he's
around.

Fantastic !

I proposed to my wife at the Nut Tree.  We took the short flight from San Jose in my (then) lease-a-plane Mooney, rode the train to dinner and along with dessert of champagne and strawberry cheesecake came the question and the ring.  To my utter amazement, she said yes, and is still my best friend and life partner after 30 years.  Let's see, that was 3 Mooneys and 5 airplanes ago!

Hey, I just came up with the PERFECT 32nd anniversary surprise! Smile

I flew the Mooney to Vacaville airport the other day. I found out lots of information about the former Nut Tree airport and their large operations. Years ago I went with my Dad to the Nut Tree airport and rode their train and ate at their restaurant. This was probably in the early 1960's. It was a great place to visit. Too bad they closed it down especially for the aviation part. I did enjoy my visit the other day even though the wind was gusting to about 19 knots. I walked to the area that they rebuilt and it was ok. I think I'll go back there again and check it out some more. The people working in the Main FBO were real nice. Good place to fly to.

We fly there quite often the FBO we use is not staffed at least no one is ever there when we go in. You acces with the ATIS frequency and it's very nice inside. I was under the impression it was run by the county. Nut tree is a great place to visit there is a Lowes and other stores all very close and the little strip mall has some very good food the Mexican restaurant is outstanding. The fuel price there is the lowest in the area almost a dollar less than my home field.
