carusoam Posted September 2, 2014 Report Posted September 2, 2014 Hank, We're going to need a way to order them from you. Etched and anodized! With towing limitations printed on them... Best regards, -a- Quote
Hank Posted September 2, 2014 Report Posted September 2, 2014 I prefer a good Tennessee sippin whiskey. Old No. 7 is good enough, no fancy bag required. Quote
DrBill Posted September 3, 2014 Report Posted September 3, 2014 I make mine out of scrap 4x4. 12-14 inches long. Cut in half with my table saw. Then I used a piece of 1/2 in poly rope abt 2 ft to connect the two. I drill a 1/2 in hole in the end of the chock then lock it in with a sheetrock screw from one of the flat sides near the hole. I made 6 sets for our airport. I paint the N number on them and have a set in the baggage compartment. I'll take some pics and post tomorrow. Bill Quote
aviatoreb Posted September 3, 2014 Report Posted September 3, 2014 I bet if your chocks were 56" long no one would steal them either. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I'm gonna go to home depot this weekend and get me a big ol' 4'' by 4'' by 8' hunk-'o' lumber and have them cross cut it for me, and some yellow spray paint - and bring back to my hangar some eight foot chocks for my baby. Just make sure you tell Home Depot they are for aviation so they can charge you $542. Quote
carusoam Posted September 3, 2014 Report Posted September 3, 2014 If y'all use a 10' section... You will only need to build one set! According to the MM for short and medium bodies, the track is 9' 3/4". ( yes, you inspired me to look up that detail) I can really sense the savings of the HD DIY project. Thinking out loud, -a- Quote
Hank Posted September 3, 2014 Report Posted September 3, 2014 You tear me up, Anthony! Two 10' pieces of aluminum angle will make FIFTEEN SETS (15!) of chocks. Price that out at the Big Orange Box. My wooden hangar chocks were secured by drilling a half-inch hole, pushing the rope through and tying a knot in it. The knot won't pull back through. Then I realized in the hangar that the rope was unnecessary, so I removed it. When I'm ready to pull the plane out, I just kick the front chock out of the way; upon return, I push back to the unmoved rear chock, then slide the front one back in place. No rope needed. 1 Quote
BorealOne Posted September 4, 2014 Report Posted September 4, 2014 Who needs 15 sets? My local metal shop will cut angle aluminum by the foot, and even drill holes for free... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
rockydoc Posted September 14, 2014 Report Posted September 14, 2014 No, but I got an awesome custom set (engraved with Mooney on one side and 34234X on the other of each chock) from Aircraft Spruce. Powder-Coated for about $50 bucks. Yeah. My thoughts exactly. Quote
