Does the Mooney M20C Mark 21 have an "exhaust piper"? How about a fuel gascolator drain in the engine access compartment? Finally, is there a pitot-static system drain as there is in the Piper Warrior series?

Thanks in advance for any responses. My memory of the type is rustier than I'd like.

Gascolater Valve is actuated by a pull on the ring on the pilot's floor.

Exhaust pipe? Yes and a muffler and a heat muff too. Did I hit on what you may be asking...?

Static system may have a dead leg to allow for moisture to move and collect away from the instruments. Newer M20s use two drains.

Compared to a warrior? I have no idea...

Why are you asking these interesting questions?

What year JR?

I had a '65 C. Probably a "Ranger", But my memory is getting fuzzier by the day...

Pull ring, no drain...and mine was only close to IFR capable...

Hope this was helpful to the OP.

Depends on the model year. Our 65 has a pull ring on the floor.

Well, I could be wrong...I thought the Mark 21 designation stopped in 1964, and the 65' models were just 20Cs and Ranger started in 1968.  Thought only late model 20Bs and early Cs were Mark 21, but I can't find anything to support that right now.  So all I can accuarately say is the 63' 20C has it in the nose gear well.

My POH says "Mark 21"  Anyway, it would be nice if the OP let us in on the reason for these seemingly random inquiries.

Well, that is pretty official then, Mark 21 goes to at least 1965.  Seems I was wrong yet again.  My wife says I never admit that, but here it is, written proof.

As for why the OP asked the questions, who knows?  Maybe he just likes random questions?  I do too.  Lets add these 2 to the list:

Why do turkeys have that dangly thing under their beaks (Waddle maybe its called?)

Are penguins delicious?

Adding fuel...

POHs for th M20C came later and were last updated in 1977...

For 1965 and older, you got the less official owners manual.

My '77 POH has the title Ranger as the name for all M20Cs.

Howdy folks, thanks for the responses! Don't worry, I won't tell any significant others about being wrong, we'll put them in the "learn something new every day" category.

The "exhaust piper" was a line in an old 3rd party checklist I had laying around. I didn't remember seeing one when I flew a 1964 model M20C but I didn't fly anything newer until an M20J then the M201TN and those didn't have exhaust gizmos.

My purpose is currently purely selfish, I'm working on some new checklists that have more than the owner's manual fifeteen pages of how to wash the things and two on how to fly it. I'm aiming for a more airline-style set that has the short checklist for those that are flying more than once a month plus the "quick reference": book-style checklist for those that like expanded emergency procedures and a detailed preflight. Once I get the bugs worked out, I'm going to be even more selfish and ask if anyone here would be interested in proofreading the finished checklist in exchange for a free copy of it.

I would think the piper is a typo then. Part of the check list probably is a tug on the pipe to see if it is properly attached and lubricated at the joints...

Are you able to make your check lists in an iPad friendly way?

Howdy again, I really didn't come on here to sell anything, rather ensure that what I am creating is the best possible product. Yes, I am creating these for the iPad as well as print checklists.

That's OK, I'm not neccesarily buying either. But I've been on a an iPad push for all of my written documents. I just don't have my check lists as well organized. I used to scan them at work and email them to my iPad.

I'm not sure the iPad and check lists are a good combination for me. I wouldn't know until I tried it anyway...

You have provided a great idea though... I will scan my 81/2 X 11 checklist.

It needs some customization... New project!

While I strive to make the best checklists possible, nothing beats a checklist customized to the planes and how you fly, which is why I've made my iPad versions customizable and, most importantly, saved through updates. The best checklist is worth nothing if it remains unused.
