  1. My '66 E Cowl Flaps Push/Pull Knob is placarded "Do not open above 150 mph" 150 mph (~130 k) is the top of the green arc, it is not uncommon to cruise well into the yellow in an E. One other consideration, perhaps: 943RW has the lower cowl mod (LASAR) which I suppose included the cowl flaps. I wonder if the speed restriction still applies? Does the F or J have a similar limit? The reason I ask is that I have found it necessary to cruise with CF open to keep OT @ 200F.
  2. I would agree that for a few more bucks you should consider a Hartzell Top Prop (scimitar style). Quieter, no AD, ramp appeal, probably adds more that the difference to your resale value.
  3. Not sure about fantom's 510 but my 696 is easily seen and operated from the pilot's seat. I have approach plates there as well as AOPA Airports so I can pull up frequencies I'll need. It's a great backup as well.
  4. I moved a Garmin 696 all over the panel and both yokes before settling on this RAM mount on the far right side of the panel. RAM makes hundreds of different mounts - I have a suction version I used for several months until I was certain I was finished experimenting. (I think my 696 is the same size as a 795/6.)
  5. Thanks, I would not make an extra L&TO to save less than $15. (I'm coming in from KMRN about 2 hours ~ maybe 20 gallons. Fuel @ KMFV is listed @ $5.69)
  6. I'm looking at KMFV, Accomack Co, Melfa VA for a night or two next week. (It's Nancy's 49th wedding anniversary.) It appears there might be several B&B/Inns and nice restaurants in the area. Anyone care to provide advice about the airport or the area?
  7. One mention of the plane.
  8. Probably. You certainly can adjust the present policy to raise hull. I did that last year after putting 50+ AMU into my panel. (I did run into an issue that Global would only go to $86k(?) on an E. I raised to their limit (for the 2+ months remaining and found that I could get the 100k with QBE going forward.)
  9. I like my 2 sided custom laminated check list that I fold and stow above my head under the lip of the plastic headliner. If I have another pilot beside me I pull up the check list on the GPS 696 that is mounted on the right side of the panel. We can do transport crew - read - acknowledge. The 696 check list is multi-page with all kinds of reference info in addition to emergency procedures, JPI 930 key strokes, cruise power setting, and a left over shopping list for Sun-n-Fun.
  10. Bill, we've got a local outfit in Hickory, Greg Turner - Carolina Aviation Ins. He placed me with QBE in Feb. $1230 for $100k hull. (I paid $885 the year before with Global for $60k hull.)
  11. I just entered info for my E. I had to make up a value for Aspen, JPI 930, Scimitar prop, and Powerflow, which are not part of the E worksheet. Total: 105 AMU. That's very close to what I have in it. (I've owned it 17 months.)
  12. This page lists J from 1977 to 1998 http://www.vintagemooneygroup.com/M20JValuation.html
  13. I'd love to think my E is worth what it works out to on Jimmy Garrison's worksheet!
  14. Actually, it seems to have changed a little, just one step. Select the file and it should upload, When upload is finished add another file if you'd like and when you are finished hit "add reply".
  15. If you're attaching to a reply first click on "More Reply Options" button below message area. You can then select a pic from your computer ("choose files") and then "upload". 2 steps.
  16. I think this is all you've sent me so far. (If you have an editor - like Microsoft Office Picture Manager try resizing the jpg to something under 1MB. The resolution will still exceed that of anyone's monitor. Larger is wasted for electronic viewing.
  17. More pics from Bill...
  18. Bill, I note the pics are large, 5MB each. I suspect that had something to do with your problem. I took the liberty to reduce the resolution.
  19. Good advise from several folks... speed brakes can be more helpful than Chris' comment might imply, depending upon model. Where I'm based in Western NC getting down IFR from the west is a challenge with MEA at 9000 within 15-20 nm of airport. My E has a max gear speed of 120 MPH (flaps are 100 MPH) not much help. And in an older Mooney you're cruising in the yellow so there's a limit to how much faster you can go in descent. I don't use the speed brakes all that often but when I do I really appreciate having them.
  20. Tom, I'm no expert but I think you're going to need an autopilot with "HDG" heading capability. My Aspen takes the flight plan info from the 750 and feeds steering (GPSS) info to the STEC 50 which has to be in HDG mode.
  21. MAPA still offers Gordon Baxter's classic "The Al Mooney Story" from 1985. www.mooneypilots.com/merchandise.htm#!/~/product/category=0&id=11936820
  22. Larry A. Ball wrote "Those Remarkable Mooneys" copyright 1998.It's a nice reference, gloss paper with lots of pics, a coffee table book, but might not be as useful as a buyer guide to the pros and cons of C/E/F/J. There's a chronology in the back with production info on everything built from 1948 to 1997 with model number/name, serial #s, engine, features, and # built by year. I do not know if it is still in print: Ball Publications, Indianapolis.
  23. Email the jpg to me as attachment if you'd like and I'll upload as a reply in this thread. my email is on my profile.
  24. uploading pics is a 2 step process. First "choose file" then "attach this file. Repeat process for more than one pic.
  25. Thanks for that "Marty". I took my Mooney from NC to spent 4 days at a CAF airshow in Harlingen about 30 years ago. Their B26 along with B17s and the rest of the flying museum pieces made a lasting impression on me. (My father in law spent the big war in the Navy in the Pacific in the nose observation station on Martin PBM Mariner flying boats mostly on submarine patrols. He never talked about his war experience until the last few years, he just turned 92.)
